    Acupuncture,pain killer to different pains

The term “acupuncture” describes a family of procedures involving the stimulation of anatomical points on the body using a variety of techniques. The acupuncture technique that has been most often studied scientifically involves penetrating the skin with thin, solid, metallic needles that are manipulated by the hands or by electrical stimulation.

Practiced in China and other Asian countries for thousands of years, acupuncture is one of the key components of traditional Chinese medicine. In TCM, the body is seen as a delicate balance of two opposing and inseparable forces: yin and yang. Yin represents the cold, slow, or passive principle, while yang represents the hot, excited, or active principle. According to TCM, health is achieved by maintaining the body in a “balanced state”; disease is due to an internal imbalance of yin and yang. This imbalance leads to blockage in the flow of qi (vital energy) along pathways known as meridians. Qi can be unblocked, according to TCM, by using acupuncture at certain points on the body that connect with these meridians. Sources vary on the number of meridians, with numbers ranging from 14 to 20. One commonly cited source describes meridians as 14 main channels “connecting the body in a weblike interconnecting matrix” of at least 2,000 acupuncture points.

Acupuncture has been known to be very effective in the management of all types of pains — both acute and chronic. Today with modernisation and advancement in technology, various ‘needleless techniques’ are also available where no needles are inserted and the patient can be treated by using various devices to get complete relief from pain. So, if you are a patient who had always wanted to get acupuncture done but avoided doing so because of the fear of needles, there is a way out now.

Pain in the neck and cervical spondylitis:
This is a common problem particularly amongst people who work for long hours on the computer or write for a long time with their heads bent. This results in severe pain in the neck that radiates to the shoulders and arms. ‘Acutron’ is a needleless device which can be used at the acupuncture points to give complete relief from pain. Patients who develop a prolapse of the cervical disc causing numbness in the hands and fingers, can also get very good relief with this treatment.

This is a very common problem particularly amongst women and such type of headaches do not respond even to strong pain killers. Acupuncture can rectify the imbalance in the energy flow and treat the headache completely in 20 to 30 treatments. A device known as ‘Colour Therapy’ is used at the acupuncture points, it is a needleless technique. Special type of imported torches with colour filters are used in this treatment.

    Arthritis due to ageing

This is again a problem which mostly affects the knee joints. The patient feels pain on walking and weakness in the joint. A special type of treatment known as ‘Scraping therapy’ is used for treating arthritis wherein a special herbal oil is applied around the joint and rubbed with a jade stone. This process is totally painless and very effective in giving pain relief.

    Muscular rheumatism and bodyaches:
In this condition, the muscles and joints get affected due to external climatic changes and this problem is more common during winters due to excess cold. Patients may complain of pain in the joints or general muscular pains all over the body. A special type of needle less treatment known as ‘Moxibustion’ is used in this condition where a Chinese herb is used at acupuncture points to give relief from pain.

    Hip joint pain:
Patients suffering from pain in the hip joint, are sometimes even advised hip replacement when the condition becomes worse. Acupuncture has been found to be effective in controlling the pain and avoiding surgery.

Pain and burning in the feet:
This is a problem which is caused due to inflammation of the tissues of the sole causing intolerable pain and burning in the sole of the foot which is not relieved by pain killers or ointments.

Acupuncture can reduce the inflammation and a needleless device called laser can be used at the painful points to give relief from pain.

    Severe backaches:
This is a problem which every individual suffers from atleast once in his lifetime and there is not much of treatment available except the use of painkillers. ‘Cupping’ is a very effective treatment which can be used to give relief from such pains without the use of any needles.

    Rheumatoid arthritis:
This problem is generally seen in young individuals and it starts from one joint and then gradually affects multiple joints of the body. If the disease is treated with acupuncture in the initial stages, then the chances of complete recovery are very good. However, if the patient comes at an advanced stage of the disease, he can still be able to get pain relief without resorting to use of pain killers.

This problem is generally caused when a patient is suffering from a prolapse of the lumbar disc. The pain radiates from the hip to the entire leg and it is very severe in character. In this problem also, the ‘Acutron’ device can be used effectively to give pain relief.

    Sports injuries and sprains:
All type of sports injuries like sprains , strains and injury to the ligaments of the shoulder etc. can be treated very well with acupuncture with lasting results.

Varicose veins: In this condition, the patient suffers from intense pain in the legs and the veins of the legs are very prominent and feel very sore. Sometimes these veins can even rupture and cause ulcers. Acupuncture is a very effective method for treating this problem.

    Frozen shoulder:
This problem is seen more commonly among diabetics. The patient suffers from severe pain in the shoulder joint and he/she is unable to raise the shoulder due to the pain. Needleless technique of ‘Scraping Therapy’ is effective in giving relief from pain and

bringing improvement in the mobility of the shoulder
