    Indian Baby names based on Raagas!!!

    Different raags of Indian classical music evoke different feelings in the listener. If you are musically inclined, you may want to consider naming your child after a raag that is special to you.


    Here’s a brief list of music-inspired names for you to choose from:

    Raag definitions
    Ahir This is a Hindustani classical raag which
    is a mix of Bhairav and Ahiri raags.This raag is usually sung during the second phase of mornings
    Anand This name is inspired by melodious Hindustani classical raags such as Anand-Malhar, Anand-Kalyan and Anandi
    Bilas BilasKhani-Todi is a fusion of Asavari and Todi raags and is usually sung in the morning.
    Deepak Deepak is the raag of lamps. Legend goes that Emperor
    Akbar asked Tansen, the court musician, to sing raag Deepak and all the lamps in the courtyard lit up by themselves.
    Devsakh This is one of the four traditional 'sakhs' of music - Devsakh, Ramsakh, Bhavsakh and Lacchasakh.
    Gaud Raag Gaud-Sarang uses all seven shuddha swaras. It is usually sung in the afternoon.
    Hameer This raag is supposed to be sung in the evening. It is a vigorous raag with a dramatic aspect.
    Kalyan This raag is prominently played in South Indian weddings because it denotes auspicious things.
    Kamas Raag Kamas is often sung in Carnatic music concerts for short acts.
    Kaushik Raag Kaushik is believed to have been created by Goddess Parvati.
    Malhar The Malhar group of raags are associated with monsoon and are believed to possess the power to bring rain.
    Mangal Mangal raag is used to sing the Bengali Hindu sacred texts called Mangal-Kavya.
    Mohan Mohanam is a popular raag in Carnatic music, usually sung in the night.
    Nand Raag Nand is also known as Anandi, Nandkalyan and
    Anandikalyan.
    Sahaan A name inspired by Sahana raag in Carnatic music. Sahana is a sampoorna raag because it has all seven notes
    Sarang Sarang is a very popular and melodious raag in Indian music. It is believed that Sarang raag can intoxicate even poisonous snakes. The raag is said to evoke a cooling effect.
    Shankar This raag is considered to be light and is usually sung late at night.
    Shyam Shyam-Kalyan is an evening raag. It is believed that listening to this raag in the evening helps alleviate diseases
    Tilak Raag Tilak Kamod is a traditional evening raag.
    Vasant The Vasant raag is a spring-time raag

    Amrithavarshini, Amrita Amrithavarshini is also called the raag of rain. It is the Carnatic equivalent of the Hindustaani raag Malhar
    Arabhi Arabhi is a very energetic raag.
    Bhairavi Bhairavi is a raag in Carnatic music that is supposed to besampoorna or complete because the scale has all seven notes.
    Bhavapriya Bhavapriya means 'the one dear to Lord Siva'.
    Dharmavathi Dharmavathi is a popular raag which is used in movie music compositions - a favourite of music maestros A. R. Rahman and Ilayaraja.
    Gauri Gaurimanohari is a soulful raag in Carnatic classical music. A very evocative and emotional raag, it can bring about a multitude of emotions such as hope, despair, longing, passion, and so on.
    Hemavathi Goddess Parvati is called Hemavati (daughter of Himavan or the Himalayas). Most compositions on Hemavathi raag are in praise of the goddess.
    Lathaangi, Lata This raag is supposed to be sung in the afternoon. It is evocative of strong emotions such as boldness and courage.
    Madhuvanthi, Madhu Madhuvanti is a romantic raag. This melodious raag is based on feelings of love, sweetness and romance.
    Megharanjini, Megha Megharanjini raag is sung to evoke pleasant and cheerful feelings.
    Mohana A popular raag in Carnatic music, Mohanam is supposed to be sung during the night. Compositions on Lord Krishna are usually based on this raag.
    Narayani Raag Narayani is said to have appeared as early as the 7th century in the Sangeet Makarand of Narada.
    Neelaambari This raag has a soothing effect and is popularly used in the composition of lullabies. It is believed to evoke sentiments such as devotion, compassion and affection.
    Rudrapriya Raag Rudrapriya is a rare and old raag that has a strong melodious flavour.
    Rupavati Rupavati means beautiful woman. It is a harmonious raag in Carnatic music.
    Sahana Raag Sahana is a popular raag in Carnatic music. This raag is very melodious and evokes a mood of pathos and is extensively used in music of movies.
    Saveri Saveri is an intensely classical and technical raag.
    Sindhu Sindhubhairavi raag was made popular by a South Indian movie of the same name. This is a very soulful raag which is used in many movie songs
    Varali Varali raag appears in many compositions of Saint Tyagaraja. This raag is believed to reflect the spiritual connection of life.
    Vasanti This name is based on the Vasant raag which is sung in spring.
