Bridal Tips for South Indian Wedding Brides

    Tips for Brides

    Dress, Saree Shopping and Stitching
    • While buying sarees for wedding , dont do the shopping in a single dayit will be hectic and also you will end up buying similar colors
    • While buying sarees for wedding , visit all the shops and then buy your sarees
    • Make sure to stitch blouses 3 months before wedding. or if possible have 1 month buffer time to do trials, sometimes it may have some fitting problems and need 1 month to fix them
    • stitch ur blouses with hands a little bit loose (1 inch). It is going to be there for lifetime so stitch it loose. other reason is during wedding photos your appearance will look thin if the blousehand is loose.
    • While buying inskirt for the sarees, make sure to buy them in the color of saree border.
    • Now a days in shops like naidu hall , there are inskirts in Cotton Banian material. This will stick to your body and will not stick out like regular cotton inskirts.
    • This helps in making the bride look thin while wearing heavy silk saree. or else new sarees will be skicking out and make the appearance very bulky.
    • This will also absorb sweat or else our inner thighs will be sweaty all the time.
    • If you dont get such inskirts in your city then buy the regular inskirts , wash them well once or twice to remove the starch in new inskirts. Then iron them well. This will make them easily wearable inside a heavy silk saree. Also it will absorb sweat.
    • In shops like Naidu Hall, you get Underarm pads. These are very very helpful. wearing this will avoid sweat marks on the silk blouses. or else it looks very awkward on the wedding day
    • Usually for weddings we buy extra handkerchiefs or towels,These handkerchiefs usually wipe off the makeup, so try to use tissues to pat and absorb sweat
    • if you are planning to use kerchiefs or towels, make sure to wash them before usage

    Make- up:
    • When selecting a Makeup lady for bridal makeup , make sure to do a trial makeup (face alone) one week before. So that the lady will know how ur face looks with makeup. Or else suddenly on wedding day it will look too much or too dull. This is very important. even if she charges for trial makeup dont bother. Do it ! its worth the effort
    • for nichayadhaartham/engagement, sister of the Groom will do all the formalities, that time she should keep flower on ur head. Have a hair pin (slide) ready (keep it ready with your cousins or someone who is with you). Give it to her so that she can use that . or else in a hurry and nervous they tend to spoil the hair style.

    Sleepers
    • It is very tempting to buy heels chappal for the wedding, but dont buy heels for Reception saree. You have to stand continuously for 3 hrs and it is not fun standing on heels for the entire time.use Platform heels or flat slippers.

    For Madisar
    • if you are a Brahmin and wear madisar , then buy a red color shorts or tights for wearing inside. there are 2 reasons for this

    1. you have to stand bare body for tying the madisar. its little embarassing for first time
    2. due to sweat the madisar wont pull up or stick to the body. this short will prevent that.

    Some More
    • while wearing maalai / garland for the function, wear it on top of your hair plaite. this will avoid sweat or itching on the back of your neck .
    • For Iyer brides, after the Oonjal Ceremony, you have to hold hands with the groom and walk to the stage. Ask your WouldbeHusband to walk slowly. You have to walk with silk saree and the floor will be slippery due to pachaipudi rice balls.

    This is for Elders
    • Keep a Red Color or Blue Color Pen ready for Wedding Engagement. Black may be considered not-good for such functions.
    • Keep all the money sorted as 10's , 50's , 100's , coins . This will help in putting coins during every aarathi. Every wedding has this nervous situation in want of coins or money.
    • If you are planning for Vilayadal / Nalangu ceremony, introduce some new games with all young cousins involvement.
    • During Engagement , you have to handover the plate of saree to the bride. usually the bride is asked to stand up and collect the plate. Make sure to give the plate safely to her. lot of times reaching out and collecting the plate is difficult and dropping them will be bad-sentiment.
    • Plan some extra time for Bride's saree change process. After all the bride is the main spotlight and it is her wedding. She has to look the best. Give her ample time to change.
    • during the main Thaali tying moment, make sure to send all extra relatives down the stage. (tell the priest about this before and ask him to announce this . That way you wont get any bad name or hurt feelings). Have only the parents of bride , groom , siblings of bride , groom. Having the all the extra relatives will be a huge hinderence . They will push the groom's parents and come in front . This will create all awkward situations.
