    What is Meditation?




    Meditation, at its core, is quite simple. All that's required to meditate is to focus your
    entire attention on one thing, whatever it may be, your breathing, a candle, walking,
    even eating. But even though it's simple to explain what meditation is, putting it into
    practice is a different story if you're just starting out. In today's world, we've got
    so much coming at us from every angle, that our concentration is usually divided
    among all the various sensory inputs that modern life forces on us. Meditation is
    narrowing our focus from the many to the one, with the aim to achieve understanding
    and peace. So, if you're new to the endeavor, you may find your first few weeks difficult,
    but soon enough you'll find everything you do for the rest of your life easier and
    more fulfilling, so stick with it!

    Why You Should Meditate
    and what it does for you







    There's a lot of buzz surrounding meditation these days, especially now that Western
    medicine has finally pointed its microscope in the direction, with new studies coming out
    all the time touting the benefits. Some people meditate just because it's the "in thing" to
    do, others meditate as part of their spiritual or religious practice. There are many
    reasons people meditate, and if you're here, you've probably got an idea of why you're
    doing it, or why you want to do it. And if you don't, the very simple reason that you
    should be is because there's a whole ton of benefits ranging from better mental health to
    improved work productivity.

    So what kind of benefits can you expect? Well, there's not enough room here to list
    them all, but some of the benefits include: decreasing the negative effects of stress
    and anxiety, lower cholesterol levels, increase in the brain's serotonin production,
    reduced brain age, increased energy, and increased ability to concentrate. There are
    hundreds, possibly thousands of more benefits, so do some research for yourself and
    find out what meditation can do for you and whether you'd like to make it a part of
    your life. All I can say is, you'll be glad you did

    First, get comfortable!

    Where to Start


    If you're just learning about meditation, or wondering how to begin your own meditation
    practice, the amount of information out there can be overwhelming. It' seems like every
    website you come across advises a different method of meditationg. So which one is right?
    Well, the truth of the matter is that quite a lot of them are right, at least for whoever
    is espousing them. The thing about meditation is that it's a very personal endeavour, and
    there's no one right way to do it, although there are quite a few wrong ways. So your first
    task is going to be to figure out which way is right for you. Basically what I'm trying
    to say is that there really isn't one place to start that's better than another place.
    The key thing is that you try out as many different ways as you can when you're just
    beginning, and over time you'll come to find your own path to full control of your mind.
    So don't stress about one particular method over another one, just try and keep the
    below tips in mind when you're developing your practice.

    on the website. It's got a list of the best tips any beginner should be aware of to help
    develop their meditation practice. And if those aren't enough for you, then read these:

    Meditate as often as possible

    Most people seem to think that you have to have a lot of time to set aside for meditation,
    and that couldn't be further from the truth. You can meditate any time you can devote your
    attention to just one thing. Knitting can be meditation if you focus solely on the knitting.
    There's a particular kind of meditation called mindfulness meditation that you can practice
    throughout your day and incorporate into everything you do.

    Get rid of distractions

    It's not going to do you any good to try and meditate if your cat is jumping on your lap
    every 10 seconds. These hindrances to your concentration will kill your practice at first.
    Eventually you can meditate in the middle of a monsoon with perfect focus, but at first
    make sure you turn the TV off, send the kids out of the room and turn the phone off.

    Prepare yourself first

    Your brain is evolved to handle the tasks it's likely to be presented and it takes a little
    time to switch modes. Give yourself some time, and do some exercises to calm your body
