Remember those amazingly fit cyclists of Tour de France. Not only are the cyclist among the fit people on earth they also inspire us to get rid of our slothfulness and grab that cycle because cycling is a great way to get in shape.

Now we know that we can't beat them so we might as well join them. Cycling can help you stay fit during the summers as it helps in the utilization of oxygen, fortifies muscular strength and power in the legs. It can help you cut down the percentage of that hateful fat in your body. It is also more beneficial than a routine cardiovascular workout because of the simple fact that you'll be working against resistance.

Here are a few important things you must keep in mind before commencing the summer cycling routine:
Wide Variety of Workouts

Make sure that you should try wide variety of workouts and don't limit yourself to that same old workout every day. Changing your workout type frequently will yield good results for you. One session per week should be dedicated to longer-duration workout. This will help you build cardiovascular endurance. This can be done cycling continuously at moderate pace for at least 45 minutes. Then you can also try a high-intensity workout which should only last for about 20 minutes. Thirdly, try the sprint method. Cycle at a faster pace for about a minute and then slow down to take rest for at least 3 minutes.

Remember, you must not push yourself beyond limits in all these methods.
Take Rest

Do not commit the blunder of not taking rest during these cycling workouts. It is critical for recuperation and gives your muscle fibres that much-needed relaxation. You can schedule days off in a week or indulge in cross-training activities like weightlifting. But there too you must not overtrain yourself.

Eat Right

You are sweating so intensely on that bicycle and therefore you must complement that with proper nutrition so that the entire effort does not go down the drain. Incorporate foods like milk, yogurt, cheese, fish, whole wheat grains, nuts, fruits etc. in your diet. You can also have energy drinks like Gatorade in moderation. And it goes without saying that you must give up oily, spicy food and junk food.
