Shampoo contains surfactants, which are compounds that remove grime–meaning they’ll effectively wipe away eye makeup (even waterproof mascara).

Baby shampoos are formulated with milder surfactants than adult shampoo and are therefore less irritating to eyes.

Plus, some baby shampoos are specifically designed not to irritate eyes or cause tears–these no-tears shampoos contain numbing chemicals, which mask the irritating effects.

However, even the gentlest shampoos still come with warnings to avoid eye contact if at all possible.

Better DIY Solution:

Use a natural baby shampoo free of chemicals, fragrances and preservatives

Another super simple, wallet-friendly solution is coconut oil.

Moisten a cotton ball or swab with the yummy-smelling solution, and gently swipe away your makeup. Bonus: the oil will hydrate the fragile skin around your peepers.
