Be aware of … a cat

Studies which took place in Prague, shows that cat feces carry a parasite that can affect a person's mental state and behavior. This parasite has already infected millions of humans.

Biology professors specializing report that this parasite triggers the disease toxoplasmosis. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over 60 million people carry the disease. However these people do not even know it.

It is thought that old and the very young people have a greater risk from the disease. People caught this infection may only have a slight flu-like fever when first infected. Though, this disease manipulates its host’s behaviors. Men commonly experience increased suspicion, women in most cases become friendlier. These changes may be human manifestations of changes developed for rats. When a rat is infected it has no fear for cats. It becomes drawn to a cat's odor, increasing the chances of being caught by a cat.

People can get the disease by cleaning a dirty litter box, but also by eating raw or undercooked meat, vegetables grown in infected soil, or through blood transfusions or organ transplants. The danger of toxoplasmosis is that it may trigger schizophrenia-like symptoms, including psychosis and serious changes in behavior.

Scientists urge cat lovers be more aware and seek for a medical help as soon as they noticed any symptoms.
