    First aid kit

It's important to have a well-stocked first aid kit in your home to deal with minor accidents and injuries.
Your first aid kit should be locked and kept in a cool, dry place, out of reach of children.
Many people also keep a small first aid kit in their car for emergencies.

    Your basic first aid kit

A basic first aid kit may contain:
plasters, in a variety of different sizes and shapes
small, medium and large sterile gauze dressings
at least two sterile eye dressings
    triangular bandages
    crêpe rolled bandages
    safety pins
    disposable sterile gloves
    tweezers
    scissors
    alcohol-free cleansing wipes
    sticky tape
    thermometer, preferably digital
skin rash cream such as hydrocortisone or calendula
cream or spray to relieve insect bites and stings
    antiseptic cream
painkillers such as paracetamol (or infant paracetamol for children), aspirin (not to be given to children under 16), or ibuprofen
    cough medicine
    antihistamine tablets
distilled water, for cleaning wounds and as an eye bath
It may also be useful to keep a basic first aid manual or instruction booklet with your first aid kit.
Medicines should be checked regularly to make sure that they are within their use-by dates.

Re: Emergency Care - Everyone Must Know it - அவசர சிகிச்சை

    Cardiac emergencies

Remember people do suffer heart attacks with no warning signs and also with no preceding chest pain (esp diabetics)....

Remember not all chest pain are cardiac related ...Lung problems(நுரையீரல்), problems in oesophagus(உணவு குழாய்) , pancreas( கணைய அழற்சி) , even shingles(அக்கி ) can also cause chest pain .....

Suspect cardiac related emergency in a person complaining of chestpain if
There is history of heart problems , previous heart attacks or episodes of chest pain .....
Diabetes, Hypertension, obesity , High Cholesterol
    Smokers , Excess Alcohol Use.......

    Heart Attack Symptoms

    • Chest discomfort that feels like pressure, fullness, or a squeezing pain in the center of your chest; it lasts for more than a few minutes, or goes away and comes back.
    • Pain and discomfort that extend beyond your chest to other parts of your upper body, such as one or both arms, back, neck, stomach, teeth, and jaw
    • Unexplained shortness of breath, with or without chest discomfort
    • Other symptoms, such as cold sweats, nausea or vomiting, lightheadedness, anxiety ,indigestion, and unexplained fatigue.....

What To Do Before Paramedics Arrive

If you see someone who appears to be having a heart attack, call an emergency service ( doctor /ambulance /In TN-108, In UK-999 ,In USA -911 ) right away. Then, follow these steps:

    • Try to keep the person calm, and have them sit or lie down.
    • If the person is not allergic to aspirin, have them chew and swallow a baby aspirin (It works faster when chewed and not swallowed whole).
    • If the person stops breathing, you or someone else who is qualified should perform CPR immediately. If you don't know CPR, the emergency operator can assist you until the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) personnel arrive...
    • In the case of a plain chest pain administering the persons own medication will relieve the pain ......

Angina pain(Chest pain) develops if part of your heart muscle does not get as much blood and oxygen as it needs. It is usually caused by narrowing of your coronary arteries due to a build-up of a fatty substance called atheroma. The narrowing makes it more difficult for blood to flow to your heart muscle. GTN works in two ways. It relaxes blood vessels in your body (causing them to widen) and this reduces the strain on your heart, making it easier for your heart to pump blood. It also relaxes and widens the coronary arteries which increases the flow of blood to your heart muscle.

    How to take glyceryl trinitrate

Spray: spray one or two sprays under your tongue when a pain develops. Close your mouth immediately after using the spray. Your pain should ease within a minute or so. If the first dose does not work, take a second after five minutes. If the pain continues for 15 minutes despite taking GTN, then call an ambulance.
Sublingual tablets: place one tablet under your tongue when a pain develops and allow it to dissolve. Your pain should ease within a minute or so. If the first dose does not work, take a second tablet after five minutes. If the pain continues for 15 minutes despite taking GTN, then call an ambulance.

Acting quickly in response to heart attack symptoms can save lives. If given within an hour of the first heart attack symptoms, clot-busting and artery-opening medications can stop a heart attack. Waiting longer than 1-2 hours for treatment can increase damage to the heart and reduce the chances of survival. About half the people who die from heart attacks do so within the first hour after heart attack symptoms begin.

    Be Prepared

Nobody plans on having a heart attack. It is best to be prepared, just in case. Here are some steps you can take before heart attack symptoms occur:

    • Memorize the list of heart attack symptoms and warning signs; remember that you need to call EMS within 5 minutes of when heart attack symptoms begin.
    • Talk to family and friends about the warning signs and the importance of calling EMS immediately.
    • Know your heart disease risk factors and do what you can to reduce them.
    • Create a "heart attack survival plan" that includes information about medicines you are taking, allergies, your doctor's number, and people to contact in case you go to the hospital. Keep this information in your wallet.

Friends indha thread la sollra vishayam padichu symptoms aa unga issues udan corelate senju alarm aagadheenga ......

Also GTN use pathi ellam solli irupadhu not for self prescription or using without any medical advice or prescription ..... Remember any medicine has side effects ...... Here benefits outweighs the side effects .......Also better to help the patient to use their own existing prescribed medication only ...... Naan solradhu puriyum nu ninaikaren ...... Naama stressed aa irukum bothu thanni bottle open panradhu kooda periya task thaan ...so nenju vali irukum bothu avanga padhatatha pokki avanga eduka vendiya marundhgalai edukka help panradhe oru periya udhavi thaan .....

Hi, priya really superb you had clearly explained all the things.

I have one suggestions, most of the peoples don't know the normal values for blood sugar to be before and after food, blood pressure, hb count etc. You can start new thread regarding this normal values too it will be highly informative.

Re: Emergency Care - Everyone Must Know it - அவசர சிகிச்சை

இது மாதிரி முன்னாடி இல்ல, இப்போ மட்டும் ஏன் ? is it that much necessary to take?

i have read two medical articles from news paper pertaining to this matter ,one says, this blood cholesterol is already in blood, it will be more when we get more stress, nothing do with, what we are eating. common myth or real i don,t know, another one is saying what we are eating is added to it , i know obese makes its contribution some what, but other things i would like to know. please if time permits,
