When you're using a computer during pregnancy and afterwards, the main thing to remember is to look after your health and comfort. Follow these steps:
  • Take regular breaks, and make sure you get up and move around. A 10-minute break in each hour is the usual recommendation but you may need to increase breaks now you're pregnant.
  • Adjust your chair and computer so that your posture is good. Make sure your eyes are the same height as the top of the screen. Your forearms should be approximately horizontal, with your wrists straight. Take care that your back is well supported with your feet flat on the floor or against a foot rest.
  • Arrange your keyboard, screen, mouse and documents (use a holder if necessary) so that you avoid glare and don't have to make awkward movements.
  • Have an eye test. If you wear contact lenses you may find that they become less comfortable during pregnancy, because water retention can affect the shape of your eyeballs. You are also more likely to suffer from dry eyes. You could wear glasses for on-screen work.
  • Go for a short walk or place your feet on other chair so that your feet will not get swollen.
