Now, let us see the ways to prevent the UTI.

    • Always wear the cotton undergarments which are little loose. Avoid tight garments and which are made of other fabric. The air should easily circulate inside also.
    • Change the undergarments once you feel it wet even due to sweat, as the moisture may help in the growth of bacteria leading to the infection.
    • Drink atleast 8 glasses of water for persons with normal physical activity. Those who work sternously, shoud consume much more water.
    • Never control the urine for more than an hour.
    • After urination , clean the genitals thoroughly(inside also) with water.
    • After passing stools, cleaning only the anus part is not enough. but the front part is also very much important.. After cleaning the anus, pour water from the front to the back so that the motion particles which would have come in front would also be cleaned.
    • This method should be taught to the girls from their childhood itself. .

    • Sitting too long in the bath tub, may also increase the growth of the bacteria in the genital area.
    • Always change the Sanitary napkins once in 4 to 5 hours of a day. As the prolonged wetness may lead to the growth of the bacteria.
    • Perfumes or similar products should never be used near the genital area.
    • Do not clean the genitals with disinfectant like dettol or similar disinfectant soaps as these may destroy the necessary good bacteria.
    • Try to empty the bladder , every time you urinate.

    • Wash your genitals throughly after the intercourse.
    • Urine or motion should not be controlled during the intercourse.
    • Spermicidal jelly should be avoided as they may kill the necessary bacteria in the vagina.
    • Women after menopause are highly prone to the UTI, due to the lack of estrogen. They could consult the doctor and if necessary can use the estrogen vaginal cream in case of frequent UTI.
    • Live cultures present in the yoghurt helps in the growth of necessary good bacteria. Hence regular consumption of yoghurt will certainly prevent the UTI.
    • Necessary antibiotics should be taken with the guidance of the doctor, in case the person is affected with UTI
    • As few of our friends have suggested CRANBERRY juice will be very helpful to get rid of this infection.
    • Earlier I had a doubt whether this is available in India, so, didn't mention about it, but now I got confirmed, that this juice is available in India, in all the big supermarkets. So, you can make use of it.

Yes Cranberry juice will help. Drinking 3-4 litres of water in a day will also help.

    Nice tips jayanthy sister!

Pregnant women are at higher risks for UTI. Increasing intake of liquids and in particular citrus helps much.

Yes Uma and Vijaya, even I have read that this juice is of very much help to get rid of the UTI.

But I had a doubt, whether it is available in India. So, I didn't mention about it earlier in the posts.

But today I got it confirmed that this juice is very easily available in all the big super markets in Indian cities.

So, now I have added in my earlier posts, that you have mentioned the remedy for this infection.

    Thanks for it.
