    Herbal Shampoo and Conditioner

As suggested by Ayurveda, beautiful healthy hair requires constant care routine, which is very nourishing. Traditional Ayurvedic hair care routine includes a minimum weekly (bi-weekly or thrice a week for extremely dry hair) oil massage for the scalp, using the purest ingredients for nourishing and stimulating the hair follicles.

Genuine Ayurvedic food (shampoo / conditioner) for hair is made of organically grown ayurvedic herbs formulated from flowers, barks, leaves that imparts good health to hair, by nourishing, protecting and cleansing. Traditional Ayurveda involves pampering hair lavishly using reetha (soap nut), mixed with amla, brahmi, fenugreek etc., which again provide excellent nourishment and are good conditioners.

Even oils play vital role in maintaining the healthiness of hair. In a typical ayurvedic hair care, after a good oil massage with a herbal oil, it is allowed to remain in the hair for a couple of hours or overnight, for the herbs and oil to penetrate into the hair follicles, after which the hair is washed and dried with incense, so that the fragrance remains in the hair for a couple of days.

As for shampooing, Ayurveda recommends use of gentle shampoo twice a week, with Amla (Indian gooseberry), reetha (soap nut), Shikakai and Brahmi as the main ingredients. These herbs provide good nourishment and serve as hair tonic. A Shampoo containing these ingredients helps in preventing hair loss and leaves the hair silky, shiny and soft. The Amla Shampoo (Indian Gosseberry shampoo), in particular, is meant for dull or dry hair, and adds volume, shine and life to hair. This when used in combination with arnica, helps in preventing skin irritations.

Shampooing can be followed by a hair rinse.

A good formula that serves as a good conditioner for the hair and scalp can be obtained by a perfect blend of aloe oil, coconut oil, Shikakai, Brahmi and Amla with certain other herbs known for their nourishing and conditioning properties. Also Mint, Triphala and Bael fruit, helps in nourishing the scalp, giving it body and fullness, and helps in toning the hair.

While choosing Ayurvedic shampoos, make sure that they contain these ingredients in their labels, for healthy, beautiful hair.
