    Colours and Shapes

    Colours and Shapes

Why note down recipes all the time?

Today just relax by seeing these pictures. It is not always difficult to impress your lil ones.

Colours and shapes are the first attractions… What the kids see on their plate should make them want to eat it.

    Re: Colours and Shapes

    Cut anything possible

Let me give an example. Prajodh has a small kid brother studying in 5th std now (so cute…). So in order to make him happy, Prajodh cuts the pooris which his mom prepares, using this…

Attachment 125259Attractive shapes and recipes for Kid's Food items-guitar.jpg

    Yesssssss…. It’s a keychain… I was amazed looking at this…

So while eating, his brother would receive one or two pooris in guitar shape !!! He becomes exited and eats more… What a trick!!!!!!

So now do you get it? Cut anything to any shape possible… Nothing is stopping you…

    Cut Anything Possible

    Mango

Mango attracts many kids… Why not present it in an attractive way…

    Attachment 125261

1 The mango has a flat-ish oblong pit in the center of it. Your objective is to cut along the sides of the pit, separating the flesh from the pit. Holding the mango with one hand, stand it on its end, stem side down. Standing up the mango up like this you should be able to imagine the alignment of the flat, oval pit inside of it. With a sharp knife in your other hand, cut from the top of the mango, down one side of the pit. Then repeat with the other side. You should end up with three pieces - two halves, and a middle section that includes the pit.

2 Take a mango half and use a knife to make lengthwise and crosswise cuts in it, but try not to cut through the peel.

    Cut Anything Possible

    Mango

Now, you can use the next 2 steps to cut a mango into pieces. This might come handy when you don’t find time.

    Attachment 125268

    Attachment 125269

3 At this point you may be able to peel the segments right off of the peel with your fingers. Or, you can use a small paring knife to cut away the pieces from the peel.

4 Take the mango piece with the pit, lay it flat on the cutting board. Use a paring knife to cut out the pit and remove the peel.

    Cut Anything Possible

    Carrot

Making kids to eat veggies… That too raw ones… OMG!!!
But may be it is possible…

    Method 1:

    Attachment 125270

You can do it with any cookie cutter. But the disadvantage is you may not be able to cut the thinner side of the carrot.

    Method 2:

    Attachment 125271

Peel the carrot with a vegetable peeler. Use a sharp paring knife to mark the petals on the carrot. I decided on a 4-petal flower so you can see four slits above.

    Attachment 125272

Carve a horizontal line down the first slit. Repeat with a second horizontal line about 3 mm away.

Hollow out the carrot between the two horizontal lines to complete the petal. Repeat with the other petals and when you’re done, you’ll see the flower shape.

Each slice of the carrot will give you a nice flower. These pretty carrots are now ready to jazz up all kinds of dishes!

    Cut Anything Possible

    Pineapple

    Attachment 125274

Even now I don’t like those black spots on this fruit… What if we can remove them in an easy way…

Place the pineapple on its side on a cutting board. With a sharp chef's knife, slice off the top green crown and about a half inch of the top of the pineapple. Stand the pineapple upright on the cutting board.

Use a sharp knife to carefully cut away the skin, from top to bottom, following the contours of the pineapple. Do not cut so deep as to cut away the eyes. The outer edge of the pineapple has the sweetest flesh, so you want to retain that if you can. Cut off the bottom half inch or so of the pineapple.

    Attachment 125275

    Attachment 125276

Now you have a pineapple dotted with eyes which must be removed. You can use a small paring knife to carefully carve out each one, but there is an easier way. Notice that the eyes all line up on a diagonal. You can make a diagonal cut across the side of the pineapple, like a V-shaped trench, and more easily cut out all of the eyes that are on that diagonal. Just continue to work your way around the pineapple. You do waste a little bit of good pineapple this way, but not much, and it is a lot faster than trying to carefully cut out each eye.

    Dosa

    Dosa??? And different shapes???

Why not? Dosa is something which kids eat almost daily…

Use your imagination… But make sure to make simple designs which would be easy for tossing and which would come out of the tawa…

Why not start the teaching part with a dosa???
