    Summer Health Tips For Teenagers

    The summer has officially arrived with its sunny shine. It is the great time for everyone, especially teens who would love to go and spend more time outdoors.

    Here are some of the summer safety tips for teens which can keep them safe.


    1. Recreational water illnesses like pink eye, diarrheas etc are caused when water gets contaminated with germs. To avoid them, teens have to take some simple steps to keep themselves safe while swimming like taking bath before and after swimming, not sharing the pool towels with friends etc. While swimming in the ocean, teens should swim only in the designated areas where the life guard are present. It is always good to be aware of CPR and how to escape from the rip currents in the ocean.
    2. To avoid the harmful rays of sun, teens should make sure that they apply the sun block or sunscreen before going out. Teens should reapply the sunscreens for every few hours to avoid the sunburn problems. Select the sunscreen in such a way that it has the ability to block both UVA and UVB harmful rays.
    3. As teens mostly prefer to spend time outdoors in summer, they may suffer from the mosquito bites and other bug bites. To avoid the mosquito bites and other insects, try to use insect repellents. Once they are home, wash off the insect repellent immediately.
    4. When teens go for outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing etc., make sure to wear the protective gear like while riding a bicycle, wear the helmet and pads.
    5. To stay hydrated, teens should take plenty of water. Try to avoid the drinks which can dehydrate the body like drinks with excess amounts of caffeine etc.
    6. Summer is the best time for the teens to keep themselves in shape and be active. So it's good to sign up or try an outdoor sport such as tennis, baseball, basketball etc which can make the teens to be active and fit.
    7. When the teenagers are out with friends, it is good to be aware of the surroundings to ensure safety and always stick with friends. When ever they face a situation which makes them feel uncomfortable, the best option is to move away.
    8. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, summer is the time when most of the teen drivers are killed and injured in car crashes. Parents should set some rules and guide their teenagers like wearing a safety belt, maintaining the speed limit, not using cell phone while driving etc.
    9. As teens love to enjoy fireworks, parents can take them to the professional displays which take place in the communities. Parents should discourage and let their teens know how danger the fireworks can be if they use them. According to the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshall, in Illinois, 125 people were injured by fireworks in the year 2007.
    10. Teens should opt for foods which are healthy and nutritional. Summer is the best time to eat fresh vegetables and fruits. By taking foods like carrots, tomatoes, apricots etc which are rich in beta-carotene can help to protect your skin against sun damage.
    11. Try to wear sunglasses and hats to protect your eyes and face. Choose your sunglasses in such a way that they can block the ultra violet rays and prevents the sunlight from falling into your eyes.
    12. As dark color clothes attract and absorb the sun's heat, it is always preferable for the teens to wear light weight and light colored clothes as the light colored clothes have the ability to reflect the sun's heat.

    • Say goodbye to junk and canned foods like burgers, chips, pizza and cookies. These foods are processed and contain either too much of salt or sugar and are low in nutrition. Some other junk foods are also high in fat and calories and eating these foods will only give you obesity and nothing else so make a promise to avoid these foods completely. Instead of these foods, eat fresh fruits and vegetables like apples, bananas, spinach and lettuce. List of healthy food is not limited to these fruits and vegetables as you can have a large variety of healthy foods to choose from. I will suggest you eating two apples and two carrots a day as a first step towards getting healthy body and attractive looks.
    • Water is such a gift from nature that flushes out toxins from your body naturally so make a habit of drinking 10 glasses of water daily for glowing skin. If you are a sports person or work in sun then you will need more than 10 glasses of water to drink daily.
    • Besides eating healthy food, try to take multivitamins and essential minerals supplements as these things increase energy level to meet your nutritional requirements.
    • Add omega-3 fats in your diet as these fats are quite beneficial for good skin, healthy nails and hair. These fats are also good for brain health so eat food having omega-3 fats such as eggs, salmon and cod liver oil. If you are suffering from dry hair and skin, then you must include these fats in your food.
    • Eight hours sleep is also necessary for health and beauty. If teens don’t take a restful sleep for eight hours then they may suffer from depression, mood swings and other problems. Avoid watching TV at night because it may also disturb your sleep. Take a hot bath before going to bed or read a book as doing these will help you falling asleep.
    • If you are studying and doing job at the same time, you may suffer from stress which is neither good for your health nor for your beauty. So try to cut down your responsibilities and ask your parents to help you out. You may also ask your boss for cutting down your working hours.
