    Cumin or Cumin seeds which is used in our household for cooking has its own place among spices.
    Cumin also serves as a natural medicine in many ways to us. It is known to be used as a medicine in India since ancient times.
    Cumin has the ability to rectify many harmful effects in our internal Organs. In Tamil cumin is referred to as 'SEERAGAM' WHICH is 'SEER'(TO RECTIFY OR CORRECT) +'AGAM'(INTERNAL OR INSIDE).
    Rightly so, it has the ability to correct all disorders inside our body.
    100 grams of Cumin has the following nutritive values mentioned below:
    Protein-17.7 grams
    Fat-23.4 grams
    Potassium - 2.1 grams
    Calcium - 0.9grams
    Phosphorous - 0.5grams
    Sodium - 0.2grams
    Iron- 48.1 mg
    thiamine - 0.8mg
    Riboflavin - 0.4mg
    Niacin - 2.5mg
    Ascorbic Acid - 17.2mg
    Vitamin A - 175 IU

    Significance of Cumin Seeds:
    Cumin adds flavor to our cooking and is used in the preparation of soups, sauces, pickles, candies and so on. Cumin is said to be a very useful medicine for indigestion and gastric disorders. Cumin has the ability to remove harmful toxins completely from our body. It is also an appetizer. It is also an effective remedy to tiredness and helps strengthening our nerves.

    • Drinking Water: Boil a small amount of cumin seeds with water and drinking this prepared water at regular intervals will make your internal system perfect and you will never have any indigestion problems at all.



    • Have a small amount on Cumin Seeds to eat and then drink some water in order to cure any dizziness or sleepiness.



    • Cumin seeds along with ginger mixed in buttermilk for consumption are an effective remedy for gastric disorders.



    • Put a small amount of Cumin seeds in a ginger lemon juice and leave it for a day.. Have a small amount of this mixture two times a day for three consecutive days and you are completely relieved of harmful toxins in your body.



    • Powder a small amount of cumin seeds along with dry ginger and black pepper, have a small amount of this powdered mixture along with a teaspoon of honey to enable your internal organs function properly. This can also be taken weekly once as a (Prophylactic) for effective disease prevention.



    • Cumin seeds act as an effective coolant; removing excess body heat and also makes your skin glowing. Hence it is advisable to use cumin seeds in one or other form in daily cooking.



    • A powdered Cumin seed mixed in a glass of grape juice are an effective remedy for high blood pressure and also helps in sustaining blood pressure levels without increasing.



    • Take a small amount of powdered mixture of cumin seeds with black pepper boiled in a small amount of oil (coconut oil).Apply this mixed oil in your head before you take bath and wash it of when bathing in order to reduce burning sensation in eyes also to cure to water oozing out of eyes frequently.



    • Spinach mixed with small cut onions cooked along with cumin seeds is said to be very effective in curing mental stress and depression.



    • Powder a small amount of cumin along with dry ginger, coriander seeds and consume a pinch of this mixture powder twice daily in order to reduce laziness and become energetic.



    • A small amount of cumin with one or two black pepper taken along with beetle leaves if chewed in your mouth and then drinking some water helps to prevent obesity.



    • Take a small amount of cumin with two or three small units of garlic and make it in to fine paste and mix this paste in lime water and drinking it helps prevent any colon disorders.



    • Oregano mixed with cumin made in to a liquid and if consumed helps reduce loose motion.



    • A small amount of cumin made in to fine paste along with small onions. If this paste is consumed along with cows milk helps prevent many Women's problems



    • A small amount of cumin boiled in tea decoction helps reducing blood flow during loose motion.



    • Yellow Bananas mixed with a small amount of cumin seeds helps in reducing excess weight (weight loss).

    Sukku Health Benefits Medicinal Uses of Chukku Treatment Values



    Sukku medicinal uses
    Sukku Dry ginger is having many medicinal properties, this post sukku health benefits medicinal uses of sukku in Treatment values gives the information of how chukku is used in the treatment of various diseases. Dry ginger is available as a kitchen medicine and most of the time it is used as a recipe to cure diseases. Very commonly sukku is used to treat cold, cough and fever.     Sukku pal or padam sukku paal: Take a glass of fresh milk, boil it by adding 1/2tsp of sukku podi and sugar as per your taste. Let to boil for five minutes in sim flame, filter it and add badam powder if you like the flavor.
    Sukku kulambu and Sukku milagu kuzhambu gives fast remedy from cold.
    Sukku kashayam: Take 1 glass of water, add 1/2tsp of sukku powder and pepper powder. Let it to boil for 5 to 10 minutes in low flame then add jaggery as per your taste.
    Chukku for Indigestion Remedy
    sukku rasam and sukku water works better for indigestion and gastric problem. sukku rasam or sukku water preparation is very simple and easy. Take a glass of water and add 1/2tsp of each jeer and sukku podi. Let it to boil for the whole amount reduces into half. Drink two times a day.
    Sukku medicine for cough
    One of the best sukku milagu thippili uses is cough treatment. Each ingredient is taken equal amount and cough powder is prepared.
    Sukku Benefits in Fever Remedy
    Sukku kaapi also called sukku coffee is the best medicine for cold and fever. sukku coffee health benefits are more when it is given at the time pregnancy.
    Chukku kaapi Preparation is same like usual coffee. Add 1/2tsp of sukku powder instead of your coffee powder. Add jaggery and milk for taste. in the preparation of sukku malli coffee, 1/4sp of malli coriander seed powder is added. When we give sukku coffee during pregnancy period, it will reduce the vomiting sensation by improving the digestion and also gives refreshment.

    Agathi keerai in Tamil, scientific name is sesbania grandiflora and in English the spinach variety is called as august tree leaves or humming bird tree leaves. There are two varieties of agathi leaves. One variety has white flower and the other one has red flower called as red august tree leaves. The common variety is white flower august tree leaves. Taste of agathi leaves is bitter but has bunch of healthy values. The edible parts in this variety are flower and leaves of the tree. Leaves, stem, root and flower of august tree leaves are used for medicinal purposes. The agathi leaves can be consumed in the form of juice, cooked spinach or medicine. The thin stem is used as a ingredient for good health medicines in siddha and ayurveda. It is advisable to take agathi leaves two to three times in a month.



    MEDICINAL AND HEALTH BENEFITS

    Strong bones are the main contribution of agathi leaves. The vitamins and rich calcium, iron content in this variety of spinach supplies more strength to bones. By taking some amount of agathi leaves daily prevent weak bones in older ages and arthritis. Agathi leaves strengthen the nerves of eyes.

    Agathi Keerai Poriyal Recipe


    Ingredients:
    Agathi Keerai – 1 cup, chopped
    Moong Dal – 1 tblsp
    Mustard Seeds – 1/4 tsp
    Urad Dal – 1/2 tsp
    Dry Red Chilli – 1
    Turmeric Powder – a pinch
    Sugar – 1/2 tsp
    Oil – 1/2 tsp
    Salt as per taste

    Method:
    1. Heat oil in a pan over medium flame.
    2. Fry mustard seeds, urad dal and red chilli till the seeds start to splutter.
    3. Add the chopped keerai and stir.
    4. Add turmeric powder and moong dal.
    5. Sprinkle some water and cover the pan with a lid.
    6. Reduce flame to low and cook for 5 minutes.
    7. Sprinkle some more water and cook tiill the keerai is done.
    8. Add sugar and salt.
    9. Stir to mix well.
    10. Serve as a side dish with rice.
