    Traditional Healthy Foods - மறந்து போன பொருட்கள் ,மறக்க மறுக்க இய

Friends ,I'd been thinking of starting this thread for the past 2 months. But I'm very lazy(type panna kai valikkume). But now since HEALTH is announced as this month's topic, I am posting this atleast now.
Nowadays , many people are interested in having junk foods like pizza ,burger,x,y,z.
They are junk foods then they should be discarded where? Into our stomache?
    Think a while.
Even the oats wheat and corn flakes are also not good for our health.

Our ancestors have consumed food in the past based not only on the availability but on the basis which suits our country's environmental and weather conditions.

People living in other countries and also our friends abroad can't be blamed.

But those who are here can easily get small grains can use it in our diet no?

Yes Only to tell about the small grains like vellai solam( makka solam is not so good), kambu , kezhvaragu , thinai, unpolished rice(brown rice) and sigapparisi etc. this much of build up.

And also some facts about rice , the benefits of small grains i'd like to discuss in this thread.

I'm an health freak . So I often include these in my cooking.
I like to share the benefits and some of it 's recipes here.
please do share your comments .

    Re: மறந்து போன பொருட்கள் ,மறக்க மறுக்க இயலா ந&

There is not much difference between rice and wheat in calorific value.
Ofcourse rice is like a coolant. If we consume rice along with veg.s and greens the effect will be very good. The problem is with the amount and mode of intake not with the rice.

Moreover high intake of wheat will increase temperature of the uterus and thereby leads to polycystic ovary problem.
Rice means not only the silky polished white rice. but in those days it was known as kambarisi , thinaiarisi etc.
So it is good to ad these small grains atleast thrice in a week.

First let me share something about thinai(my favourite)

This is rich in protein and Beta-carotene which is good for vision.
    In 100 gms of thinai,
    carbohydrate-60.6
    protein -12.3
    fat -4.3
    fibre -8.0
    minerals -3.3
    iron 2.8
    beta-carotene 32

    Recipe for thinai payasam

    Ingredients

    Thinai-1cup, jaggery-3/4 cup(preferably palm jaggery)
    milk -1 cup cashew- 5-6,cardamom-4,
dry grapes- 10, ghee -2 spoon

    method
cook thinai in 4 cups of water in a vessel.
once it is cooked, add powdered jaggery to this.

If u afraid of impurities, then add jaggery and 3-4 spoon water in a seperate kadai and keep heat it once it is dissolved, filter it and then add this to the cooked thinai.
Allow it to cook for 5 more minutes.
    Then add milk.
Fry cashew and dry grapes in ghee and add.
    Then and powdered cardamom.
This not only enriches the flavour, but also contols cold and induce digestion.

    Tasty thinai payasam is ready
