    Sweet Lime
    (சாத்துக்குடி) - Rich in vitamin C, lemons are just the thing to make up the vitamin deficiency that causes scurvy. Bleeding, swollen gums; ulcers in the mouth and tongue; cracked lip corners; and, frequent bouts of colds, scurvy can be cured by adequate consumption of limes.

    It helps to release the Saliva from the glands. Saliva helps in digestion. The flavonoids in lime can stimulate the digestive system as well as increase the digestive juices, acids and bile.

    The roughage in lime is also good for relieving constipation. Its also capable of treating problems like Poor appetite, Stomach Problems, Vomiting, Dysentery etc.

    The oil extracts of lime have anti-congestive properties and are often used in balms, inhalers and vaporizers. Lime is also good for preventing and treating nausea. Just chew on a piece of new lime whenever you’re feeling nausea.

    Lime has a high concentration of potassium detoxifies the kidneys, bladder and can cure infections in the urinary bladder.

    Asafoetida - It is an ancient home remedy for indigestion. To aid digestion, it can be consumed on an everyday basis by adding in curries and food. It has excellent anti-inflammatory properties and is an anti-oxidant agent. For quick relief from gas, pain and for digestion you must dissolve few small pieces of asafoetida in half a cup of water and drink it.

    Asafoetida is known to possess anti flatulent, antiepileptic, antimicrobial, anti inflammatory, antispasmodic, anthelminthic, laxative, nervine stimulant and expectorant properties. It is also known to ease anxiety due to its sedative qualities.

    Asafoetida is considered to be helpful for women with menstrual issues like menstrual cramps, irregular Periods, and pain. It is also useful in the treatment of Dysmenorrhoea.

    Granules of asafoetida can be dissolved in water and taken for relieving migraines and headaches. Asafoetida is also a natural remedy for colic in babies by placing a small amount of warm asafoetida on the baby’s stomach.

    Coumarins and sulfur compounds present in Asafoetida aid in blood thinning and prevent blood clotting. Smelling asafoetida gum is highly beneficial in dealing with Hysteria.

    High doses of asafoetida can cause dizziness and headaches, but the side effects of asafoetida are temporary and can be treated.

    Sweet Corn - Sweet corn is very rich in vitamin B1, vitamin B5, vitamin C, phosphorus, manganese, folate and dietary fiber. One cup of cooked sweet corn contains 31 grams. They are used by the body for mental and physical energy. This is especially important for athletes, who need more to drive their performance.

    A moderate consumption of sweet corn may help children with increasing brainpower and memory. This is because thiamine (a component of Vitamin B) helps promote increased memory.Sweet corn antioxidants can prevent cardiovascular problems and fight cancer.

    Zeaxanthin is the yellow pigment that naturally occurs in sweet corn. Consumption of zeaxanthin can have a protective effect against age-related eye diseases such as muscular degeneration. In addition, sweet corn also contains folate and beta carotene, which also may protect against muscular degeneration.


    Sweet corn has a moderate amount of dietary fiber. One cup contains just over 3.5 grams. Adult men should try to consume at least 30 grams of fiber a day, and women should get at least 20 grams.

    Fiber is a non-digestible form of carbohydrate that helps stabilize blood sugar levels, prevent constipation and reduce the risk of high cholesterol. It also helps you feel full for longer after you eat it. This is especially beneficial if you are trying to lose weight or maintain weight.

    Corn has Moderate amount of Potassium. Potassium is an electrolyte mineral commonly lost through sweat during long bouts of exercise. It is needed for heart function, muscle contractions and bone strength.
