    Quince Fruit - சீமைமாதுளை

    Quince is low calorie fruit. 100 g fresh raw fruit provides 57 calories. In addition, it composes several vital poly-phenolic antioxidants than apples and pears. The fruit is the storehouse for phyto-nutrients such as dietary fiber, minerals, and vitamins.

    Quince pulp along with its peel contains good amounts of fiber. Further, its gritty granules in the pulp are composed of astringent compounds known as tannins namely, catechin and epicatechin. They bind to cancer-causing toxins and chemicals in the colon, protecting its mucous membrane from inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), cancers, and diverticulitis. In addition, it helps reduce body weight and blood LDL cholesterol levels.

    It has several phenolic compounds such as caffeoylquinic acid, procyanidin-B2, oligomeric procyanidin, polymeric procyanidin etc., and essential oils like furfural, limonene, linalol, vomifoliol, toluene, β-ionone, α-terpineol, etc. Together; these compounds give quince its unique fragrance.

    Ripe quince fruit has good concentration of vitamin C. 100 g fruit provides 15 mg or 25% of RDA of vitamin-C. Fruits rich in this vitamin help remove harmful oxygen-free radicals from the body. Vitamin C helps boost immunity, reduce viral episodes and inflammatory conditions.
    The fruit is a good source of minerals such as copper (130 Ķg or 14% of RDA), iron, potassium, and magnesium as well as B-complex vitamins such as thiamin, riboflavin and pyridoxine (vitamin B-6).

    Although not well documented, quince fruit, like pears, has anti-allergenic and anti-inflammatory properties. The fruit as well its seed's extraction is suggested in the treatment of cystitis, atopic dermatitis, recommended by health practitioners as a safe alternative in the preparation of food products for allergy sufferers.

    Black walnuts contain 0.16 mg of vitamin B6. Thatís about eight percent of the recommended daily allowance. This vitamin is essential for the functioning of the red blood cells as well as the synthesis of neurotransmitters. Apart from vitamin B6, black walnuts also have vitamins E and K, folate, riboflavin and thiamine.

    If the vitamin content is not that impressive for you, wait until you hear the amount of minerals black walnuts have. These are excellent sources of manganese, a mineral thatís also an antioxidant working to protect cells like the energy-producing mitochondria. This mineral plays a vital role in bone development, wound healing and proper Metabolism. A serving of black walnuts supplies 1.1 mg, which is a staggering 54 percent of the recommended daily value. But thatís not all. Black walnuts also give you 143.6 mg of phosphorus, 56.3 mg of magnesium and 0.4 mg of copper. These minerals are critical for chemical reactions, energy production and nervous system function.

    Although black walnuts do not contain all the amino acids to make them a complete protein, theyíre a good source of the amino acid arginine. This specific amino acid enables the blood vessels to relax and as a result, it prevents hypertension, clogged arteries and heart diseases. Out of the 7 g of protein that walnuts have, 1 g of this is arginine.

    The fats that come from most walnuts are actually healthy. Out of the 16.5 g of total fat content of black walnuts, only 0.9 g is saturated fat.     Fresh leaves are very low in calories; providing just 45 calories per 100 g. It is also good source of dietary fiber (provide about 9% of RDA per 100 g). In addition, its latex is a good laxative. These active principles in the herb help reduce weight and control cholesterol levels in the blood.

    Dandelion root as well as other plant parts contains bitter crystalline compounds Taraxacin, and an acrid resin, Taraxacerin. Further, the root also contains inulin (not insulin) and levulin. Together, these compounds are responsible for various therapeutic properties of the herb.

    Fresh dandelion herb provides 10161 IU of vitamin-A per 100 g, about 338% of daily-recommended intake, one of the highest source of vitamin-A among culinary herbs. Vitamin A is an important fat-soluble vitamin and anti-oxidant, required for maintaining healthy mucus membranes and skin and vision.

    Its leaves are packed with numerous health benefiting flavonoids such as carotene-β, carotene-α, lutein, crypto-xanthin and zea-xanthn.     Chard is very low in calories (19 kcal per 100 g fresh, raw leaves) and fats, recommended in cholesterol controlling and weight reduction programs.

    Chard leaves are an excellent source of antioxidant vitamin, vitamin-C. Its fresh leaves provide about 33% of recommended levels per 100 g. As a powerful water-soluble antioxidant, vitamin C helps to quench free radicals and reactive oxygen species (ROS) through its reduction potential properties.     Dry Ginger- சுக்கு

    A most common problem encountered by people of today is indigestion. This can be cured with dry ginger. It can also cure other health disorders like wheezing, cheat irritation, ear ache cough and stomach bloating.

    The stomach irritation can be cured by mixing Dry Ginger with Sugarcane juice. Take this mixture daily on early morning. You will get totally relieved from stomach irritation.

    Other most common problem the headache can be cured by simply grinding the dry ginger and applying it on the fore head. This therapy cures the headache. Likewise applying the paste on the throat will get you relieved from throat pain.

    Likewise the chest pain can be cured by dry ginger. In equal quantities Chukka and sugar candy powdered it. Then take a tablespoon of this powder and mix it in tender coconut water. Drink it. Adopting this therapy helps in curing chest pain.

    Put some pieces of dry ginger in water and boil it. Drink this water this will keep the health in good shape. To cure the swollen joints just apply the dry ginger paste on the swollen knee joint portion. You will get relieved from the nagging pain.

    Sago is high in calories. One gram has 4 calories, which is a big contributor to the overall amount. A 100-gram serving of sago accounts for 350 calories.

    Sago does not contain many vitamins and minerals, but it does have some. A 100-gram serving gives you 7 percent of your daily allowance. This mineral, which is found in plentiful amounts in animal products, helps deliver oxygen through the blood. Sago also contains small amounts of calcium, copper, potassium and sodium. With the exception of copper, these are electrolyte minerals, which help with muscle contractions and water balance.

    The highest fiber foods include whole grains, fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts and seeds. Sago does not belong to any of these categories, and its fiber content reflects that. A 100-gram serving contains less than 1 gram.

    Fat is the last of the three macronutrients. Although fat is much maligned for its detrimental effects on the body, it's mainly saturated fat that you need to worry about. A high intake is known to promote high cholesterol and heart disease. Sago contains a very low amount of total and saturated fat. A 100-gram serving has only .2 gram of total fat and .1 gram of saturated.
