    White Walnuts - White walnuts contain the highest amount of omega-3 fatty acids. Just 1 ounce of walnuts contains 2.5 grams of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which is close to 100% of the daily recommendation. Antioxidants are molecules capable of slowing or preventing oxidation; so eating foods with antioxidants can protect your cells from damage caused by the sun or aging.

    Omega-3 fatty acids are essential fatty acids that the body cannot produce and must be obtained through diet. Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to reduce blood pressure, reduce low-density lipoproteins (LDL) or “bad” cholesterol, and reduce triglyceride levels.

    In addition, studies have shown that omega-3 fatty acids reduce inflammation in the body which can reduce the symptoms of chronic diseases such as diabetes, arthritis, and cardiovascular disease.

    Studies have shown that polyphenols reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. A handful of White walnuts contain more polyphenols than a glass of red wine.

    An ounce of White walnuts provides 4 grams of protein and 2 grams of fiber. Fiber helps regulate movement through the gastro-intestinal tract and helps you feel fuller longer which can prevent over-eating. In addition, it has been shown to decrease LDL and blood pressure as well as help diabetics maintain healthy blood sugar levels. Walnuts are also rich in the minerals magnesium, phosphorus, copper, and manganese.

    Cod Liver Oil - Taking cod liver oil daily is a great way to prevent arthritis. For those with arthritis, it will provide relief from pain. The recommended cod liver oil dosage for arthritis is a teaspoon or two each day. For those using it in capsule form, follow the directions provided on the capsule bottle.

    Muscle and bone pain are the two major symptoms of Vitamin D deficiency. People who have this vitamin deficiency experience significant leg pain and find it hard to climb stairs. Studies have also shown that a teaspoon or two of cod liver oil increases levels of Vitamin D in the body. This helps reduce muscle pain and improves the strength of the muscles as well.

    Cod liver oil contains fatty acids, which help lower bad cholesterol in the body. The best remedy is consuming one to two teaspoons each day.

    The human brain has high omega-3 concentration, and since cod liver oil also contains omega-3 fatty acids, supplementing with this fish oil gives your brain and mental health a boost. It has possible benefit for conditions like ADHD and depression and it also notes possible effectiveness for psychosis and bipolar disorder.

    Findings from a study conducted showed that expectant women who took a cod liver oil teaspoon each day were at lesser risk of having children with type 1 diabetes. Pregnant women are, however, advised to consult their doctors prior to taking cod liver oil on a regular basis.

    Chocolate - Studies show that eating a small amount of chocolate two or three times each week can help lower your blood pressure. Chocolate improves blood flow and may help prevent the formation of blood clots. Eating chocolate may also prevent arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries).

    Chocolate increases blood flow to the brain as well as to the heart, so it can help improve cognitive function. It also helps reduce your risk of stroke.

    Chocolate also contains several chemical compounds that have a positive effect on your mood and cognitive health. Chocolate contains phenylethylamine (PEA), the same chemical your brain creates when you feel like you're falling in love. PEA encourages your brain to release endorphins, so eating dark chocolate will make you feel happier.

    It also contains caffeine, a mild stimulant. However, dark chocolate contains much less caffeine than coffee. A 1.5 ounce bar of dark chocolate contains 27 mg of caffeine, compared to the 200 mg found in an eight ounce cup of coffee.

    It is loaded with antioxidants. Antioxidants help free your body of free radicals, which cause oxidative damage to cells. Free radicals are implicated in the aging process and may be a cause of cancer, so eating antioxidant rich foods like dark chocolate can protect you from many types of cancer and slow the signs of aging.

    Chocolate contains theobromine, which has been shown to harden tooth enamel. That means that chocolate, unlike most other sweets, lowers your risk of getting cavities if you practice proper dental hygiene.

    Theobromine is also a mild stimulant, though not as strong as caffeine. It can, however, help to suppress coughs.
