    Re: 7 Most Alkaline Foods

    Dear Nisha Hameetha, you have identified the alkaline foods. but most of our penmai members may not be aware of the benefits of alkaline food to our body. with you kind permission I would like to post the following article which I read in "pollynoble.com" for the benefit of our penmai members.

    What’s so good about alkaline foods?

    I have extolled the virtues of raw food many times before and will continue to do so until the end of time! The simple truth is that when we eat living foods, we are more alive. But there is another extremely important element in creating health, infact this is THE most important fact there is and is the difference between having a healthy body and an unhealthy body.

    Although you may think that you’re pretty healthy and don’t seem to have any major health problems, it is very likely that you’re body is out of balance. I’m not referring to whether you can walk straight – I’m talking about your internal system. Some of the symptoms of overacidity are; bloating, eczema, psoriasis, muscle cramps, swelling, headaches, allergies, colds, flu, sinus problems to name a few. The the chronic illnesses set in when all other possibilities of neutralizing or eliminating acids has been exhausted! It all comes down to one thing, how acidic you are.
    If, like me you were too busy passing notes in Science class than to learn about pH balance, you might not remember that the pH scale goes from 0-14 with 7 being neutral. Below 7 is ACID; above 7 is ALKALINE with the optimal blood level being 7.365.

    Re: 7 Most Alkaline Foods

    The pH level of our internal fluids affects every cell in our bodies. The entire metabolic process depends on an ALKALINE environment. FACT: The majority of the foods typical of a Westernised diet are ACID-forming; meat, bread, dairy products, alcohol, caffeine, sugar, refined carbohydrates, saturated fats etc. Chronic overacidity corrodes body tissue and can interrupt all cellular activities and functions. It is the root of ALL sickness and disease. It is also what’s keeping you fat! (I’m not saying you are fat, but if you’re struggling to shift those pounds, then it’s very likely that you’re system is too acidic!)
    Oh and by the way, cancer LOVES an acidic environment. Just one more very valid reason to stay away from the meat and the cheese and the dairy products and all that other refined stuff that we try to kid ourselves are not that bad. BOTTOM LINE – they are creating an acidic crack-den inside you and while you may be asymptomatic (not showing any sign of illness or disease) now, you are potentially setting yourself up for a shocker in years to come. Trust me – don’t wait until it’s too late!

    Re: 7 Most Alkaline Foods

    Okay, so you’re probably wondering what you CAN eat if all the other “good” (read toxic) stuff is out of the question?!

    If you were to guess the answer to that question – what would it be? Something green?! Correctamundo!!

    As human beings, we need oxygen to survive; we simply cannot live without it. Now even though you’re not a nutritionist, I know you know that oxygen isn’t found in cooked or processed foods, nor is it found in meat or cheese. Oxygen is found in beautiful green chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is the substance in plants that allows them to absorb light from the sun and covert that light into usable energy.

    Here’s a geeky fact for you; Chlorophyll is chemically related to blood – the only difference being that the main atom is hemoglobin (blood’s oxygen transporter) is iron, while in chlorophyll it’s magnesium. Chlorophyll contains a powerful blood builder that is said to increase red blood cells, improve circulation, ease inflammation (which we know promotes angiogenesis or cancer cell growth), oxygenates the body and counteracts free radicals. Boy oh boy! This stuff is good! So by feasting on raw fruits, veggies, dark green leafys we fill our bodies with liquid oxygen, the single most important element keeping us alive.

    Here’s a little list to help you realise that you are far from being deprived on adopting a more alkaline diet;

    • Veggies; cucumbers, kale, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, celery, spinach, chard, lettuce, parsley, lentil sprouts, onions, garlic, leeks, alflalfa sprouts, broccoli sprouts, green beans, winter squash, sweet potatoes, pak choi, carrots etc

    • Fruits; avocados, tomatoes, limes, lemons, apples, watermelon, grapes, berries. (Note; lemons, limes and oranges are acidic fruits but actually become alkaline once they are consumed)

    There is a whole host of other foods you can eat and I’m not going to lie to you – they don’t come in packets or have a shelf life longer than a few days. If it’s made in a laboratory or has a shelf life longer than you, do you WANT that in your body?

    I could go on for an age about this as there is so much information but the bottom line is that you would be better off it you were to;

    • Eat Raw Foods that are living to give you oxygen, enzymes, energy, minerals, vitamins, cancer-fighting phytonutrients etc

    • Eat foods that are low glycaemic (ie do not send your blood sugar soaring)

    • If you must eat meat/dairy products then eat organic AND adopt an 80/20 or 70/30 rule where you eat 80/70% raw to 20/30% cooked food. The enzymes in the raw food helps to break down the cooked food which contains none. This also means that your body doesn’t need to rob enzymes from it’s own reserve.

    If you’d like more information on this, I recommend Dr Robert Young’s “The pH Miracle” (Piatkus), which is listed in the book list on the left.
    Until next time, keep it clean and keep it green!
