    Main function of B2 is energy metabolism. It helps to burn the fat inside the body and doesn't let the fat accumulate.

    Like vitamin B1, vitamin B2 is also necessary for metabolism in the body. All the B vitamins work together and should be taken in equal quantity.


    Main Function of Vitamin B2
    Main function of B2 is energy metabolism. It helps to burn the fat inside the body and doesn't let the fat accumulate.


    RDA of Vitamin B2
    Recommended daily allowance of vitamin B2 is same as vitamin B1 1.3 mg in male and 1.1 mg in female. In case of pregnant women, breastfeeding women and women on the contraceptive pill, or if you have a diet that is low in meat and dairy products, need of B2 increases.


    Deficiency of Vitamin B2
    Its deficiency can cause a disease name ariboflavinosis, inflammation of the membranes of the eyes, the mouth, the skin and the gastrointestinal tract.


    Degradation of Vitamin B2
    Vitamin B2 is easily destroyed by light especially ultraviolet rays.


    Food Sources of Vitamin B2
    Food sources of Vitamin B2 are whole grains and leafy vegetables, almonds, soybeans and dairy products.

    Spinach, cooked (1 cup 180 gm) 0.425gm (25% of daily value)
    Milk (Fortified) (1 cup 250 gm) 0.3 mg
    Hard-boiled egg (1 egg) 0.26 mg


    Note: B complex supplements usually produce yellow colored urine. This is caused by vitamin B2. This is quite normal. Riboflavin is often used as food coloring.
