    PERSON WHOM MAY CONSUME APRICOT

    ANAEMIA

Anemia is the condition where the blood has lower concentration of red blood cells (RBCs) or RBCs having below average amount of haemoglobin. This condition is most commonly caused by iron deficiency. The presence of iron in apricot makes it an excellent food for anaemia sufferers.

The small but essential amount of copper in the fruit makes the iron available to the body. Liberal consumption of apricot can increase the production of haemoglobin in the body.

This is ideal for women after their menstrual cycle, especially those with heavy flow.

    CONSTIPATON

For those having constipation from long time, taking apricots on daily basis can be very beneficial. Apricots are rich in fiber and hence are good for smooth bowel movements. It is often recommended to patients who are regularly suffering from constipation due to its laxative natures.

The cellulose and pectin content in apricot is a gentle laxative and are effective in the treatment of constipation. Cell membrane helps the intestine to work properly, and the latter helps in absorbing water in intestine.

The pectin absorbs and retains water, thereby increasing bulk to stools, aiding in smooth bowel movement. Consumption of 6 to 8 apricots per day help to have relief from the constipation condition.

    DIGESTION

Apricot helps to clear the entire acidity and digestion problem. Take an apricot before meal to aid digestion, as it contains alkaline reaction in the digestive system.

    EYES/VISION

Apricot is highly recommended for eye because it contains Vitamin A which helps in improving vision for the person.

    FEVER

Apricot juice is given to the patients suffering from fever as it provides necessary vitamins, minerals, calories and water to the body.

Some people also use steamed apricot during fevers. Blend some honey and apricots with some mineral water and drink to cool down fever.

It quenches the thirst and eliminates the waste products effectively from the body.

Tone up the eyes, stomach, liver, heart and nerves by supplying vitamins and minerals.

    SKIN DISEASE

Apricot oil is best for skin care. It quickly absorbs the skin and does not keep the skin oily when applied.

Apricot not only useful for maintaining the skin smooth and shiny, also aids in treating number of skin diseases such as s Pear has fibers which not just help you avoid the hassles of constipation and regular bowel movements.

It also binds the bile salts in the colon and efficiently flushes them out of the system.

Fiber lowers high cholesterol levels, people at risk for atherosclerosis or diabetic heart disease.

Since bile salts are made from cholesterol, the body must break down more cholesterol to make more bile, a substance that is also necessary for digestion. The end result is a lowering of cholesterol levels.

Eat the pear whole for its precious fiber that is highly beneficial for thecolon health.

Fiber also binds to cancer-causing chemicals in the colon, preventing them from damaging colon .This may be one reason why diets high in fiber-rich foods, such as pears, are associated with a reduced risk of colon cancer.

    Additional Information and Tips

When purchasing apricots, it is suggested to pick the fruits that are plump, firm, yet slightly soft. They should be fully ripened, uniformly coloured, and small to medium in size.

So, choose the ones that are deep orange or yellow-orange rather than pale yellow. Fresh apricots can be stored in the refrigerator for a couple of weeks. Before eating the fruit, make sure to wash it thoroughly with plenty of cold water.

In case one has unripe apricots then they may place them in a paper bag and keep it at room temperature (away from direct sunlight) for 2-3 days.

Finally, store them in the refrigerator when they ripen. Green-tinted apricots, however, are not likely to ripen further. If one has over ripe apricots that are soft and mushy, then it can used to make jam or fruit leather with them.

When purchasing canned apricots prefer to buy those packed in unsweetened fruit juice or lightly sweetened juice and water.

Having consumed the canned fruits, one can thicken the remaining juice with corn starch, and use it as a fruit sauce for the pancakes.

    Apricot – 10

    Side Effects

There are no known side effects of this fruit. People even consume apricot kernels.

In fact, though not proven, it is believed that amygdalin present in the kernels can prevent and treat cancer.

The tip of the seed of an apricot, however, contains laetrile or vitamin B 17 that leads to upset stomach.

Thus, it is recommended to cut off the tips of the seeds before consuming the kernels.

Do not consume apricot kernels in excess, though, as it may cause cyanide poison.

Besides, in the process of getting dried apricots, these fruits are often treated with sulphur dioxide, which is a respiratory irritant.

Thus, individuals suffering from asthma should opt for sulphate-free dried apricots.

    Re: Fantastic Fruits

    Apricots – 11

    Dry Apricots

Apricots originally came from China. This golden fruit has been around for more than 4,000 years. Apricots progressively made their way through the Persian Empire to the Mediterranean where they were fondly adopted.

Spanish explorers introduced the apricot to the New World, and they were planted in the gardens of Spanish missions all over California. The first recorded major production of apricots in America was in 1792 south of San Francisco

Apricot kernels contain an average of 21% proteins and 52% vegetable oils, and are widely used as a substitute of almonds in food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries.

Apricot seeds, because of their remarkably high content of amygdalin, are a source of vitamin B17 and utilized in alternative medicine for cancer therapy.

It has to be underlined, however, that the seeds must be baked prior to direct consumption, since apricot kernels can be poisonous if ingested raw in large quantities.

Aside from the potential anti-cancer properties of apricot seeds, the fruit itself is a small natural drug-store.

Apricot is a fruit that has been known to humans for thousands of years. During archaeological excavations in the antique Armenian town Shenchovit near Yerevan, apricot pits were found in layers dating back to over 6000 B.C. The first written mention of apricot, however, is in a Chinese letter more than 4000 years old.

Scientific Name for Apricot Prunus Armeniaca

The apricot has highly health-building virtues. The fresh fruit is rich in easily-digestible natural sugars, vitamins A and C, riboflavin (B2) and niacin (B3).

Its shape is similar to that of the peach but slightly smaller, with skin that is velvety and golden orange in colour.
