SAUNDARYA LAHARI : SHLOKAM NO. 29

Kiritam vairincham parihara purah kaitabha bhidah
    Katore kotire skalasi jahi jambhari-makutam;
    Pranamreshwa teshu prasabha mupayatasya bhavanam
    Bhavasy'abhyutthane tava parijanoktir vijayate.

O Devi, “avoid the crown of Lord Brahma”, “you may stumble upon the crown of Lord Vishnu who had slain the Asura Kaidaba”, “Set aside the crown of Lord Indra’. These are the words from the divine Maids that echo in your place when you get up and rush to receive Lord Shiva when he comes to your place at the time when Lords Brahma, Vishnu and Indra are prostrating before you.

It is visualized that in Devi’s chamber, the three lords are prostrating and in a hurry to welcome Lord Shiva who had just made his appearance, Devi might stumble upon the crowns of the prostrating Lords. The maids of Devi anxiously utter these words, keeping safety of Devi in heir minds.

Regular recitation of shlokam No. 29 will ensure smooth delivery in case of expectant mothers as also ability to conquer the minds of enemies.

SAUNDARYA LAHARI : SHLOKAM NO. 30

    निषेव्ये नित्ये त्वामहमिति सदा भावयति यः ।
    किमाश्चर्यं तस्य त्रिणयनसमृद्धिं तृणयतो
    महासंवर्ताग्निर्विरचयति नीराजनविधिम् ॥३०॥

    Sva-deh'odbhutabhir ghrnibhir animadyabhir abhito
    Nishevye nitye tvamahamiti sada bhavayati yah;
    Kim-ascharyam tasya tri-nayana-samrddhim trinayato
    Maha-samvartagnir virchayati nirajana-vidhim.

O Devi Eternal, you are surrounded by the divine feminine forms formed out of rays emanating from your body which have special powers. The devotee who completely identified himself with this form of yours and intensely meditates on you, attains the riches greater than that of three eyed Shiva (Tri Nayana).

A devotee who worships Devi, considering the Goddess as his Atma, will be blessed by the Devi and the such Devotee will be respected by people around him.

Regular recitation of Shlokam No. 30 will enable the devotee to attain physical powers, ultimate knowledge and make others respect him. This will also give him ability to control others.

SAUNDARYA LAHARI : SHLOKAM NO. 31

    स्थितः तत्तत्सिद्धि प्रसवपरतन्त्रैः पशुपतिः।
    पुनस्त्वन्निर्बन्धा दखिअपुरुषार्थैकघटना-
    स्वतन्त्रं ते तन्त्रं क्षितितलमवातीतरदिदम् ॥३१॥

    Cautuh-shashtya tantraih sakalam atisamdhaya bhuvanam
    Sthitas tat-tat-siddhi-prasava-para-tantraih pasupatih;
    Punas tvan-nirbandhad akhila-purusarth'aika ghatana-
    Svatantram te tantram khsiti-talam avatitaradidam.

Pasupathi (Lord Shiva) created the sixty four thantras which are capable of giving desired power and was satisfied but, Devi, on your insistence he created your Thantra called Sri Vidya, which is independent of others, by using which the devotee gains all worldy aspirations of men viz. dharma, artha, kaama and moksha.

The sixty four Thantras are made of Mahamaya Samparam, Ogini Jala Samparam, Bhairava Thantram, Bahu Roopa Tantram, etc. which are a part of Thantra vidya. The Thantra referring to Devi is Sri Vidya and the devotees are reminded that knowledge about this should be obtained from a Sri Vidya Upasakar.

SAUNDARYA LAHARI : SHLOKAM NO. 32

Sivah saktih kamah kshitir atha ravih sithakiranah
    Smaro hamsah sakrastadanu cha para-mara-harayah;
    Amee hrllekhabhis tisrbhir avasanesu ghatitha
    Bhajante varnaste tava janani nam'avayavatham.

O Devi, Beeja Aksharam for Siva “Ka”, Beeja Aksharam for Shakti “E”, Beeja Aksharam for Manmatha (God of Love) “Ee”, Beeja Aksharam for Prithvi (earth) “La”, then, Beeja Aksharam for Surya “Ha”, Beeja Aksharam for Chandra having cold rays “Sa”, Beeja Aksharam for Manmatha “Ka”, Beeja Aksharam for Akasham (Sky) “Ha”, Beeja Aksharam for Indra “La”, then, Beeja Aksharam for Para “Sa”, Beeja Aksharam for Manmatha again “Ka”, Beeja Aksharam for Hari “La”, all these Beeja Aksharams combine with your Beeja Aksharam “Hreem” at the end of each of the three group of syllables. All these become the divine words to worship you. (Here “E” may be pronounced as letter “A”).

The three groups of mantras are Vakbhava Koodam (Ka, E, Ee, La, Hreem), Kamaraja Koodam (Ha, Sa, Ka, Ha, La, Hreem) and Shakti Koodam (Sa, Ka, La, Hreem). These form a part of Pancha Dasakshari Mantram which is a powerful form of meditation of Devi. As mentioned in other shlokams, further knowledge in this branch of meditation should be obtained from a Sri Vidya Upasakar.

Regular recitation of Shlokam No. 32 will give success in all endeavours, long life, success in business to devotees.

SAUNDARYA LAHARI : SHLOKAM NO. 33

Smaram yonim lakshmim trithayam idam adau tava manor
    Nidhay'aike nitye niravadhi-maha-bhoga-rasikah;
    Bhajanti tvam chintamani-guna-nibaddh'aksha-valayah
    Sivagnau juhvantah surabhi-ghrta-dhara'huti-sataih.

O Omnipotent Goddess, those who know about the pleasure of non stop japam, combine Manmatha Beeja Aksharam “Kleem”, Bhuvaneshwari Beeja Aksharam “Hreem”, Lakshmi Beeja Aksharam “Sreem” which are a trio of Mantras and wear the gem of thoughts as garland. They offer pure ghee of holy cow Kamadhenu in the Agni in the triangle of Lord Shiva several times and worship you.

A Homa Kundam made in triangular shape and fire lit in that is called Shivagni. Learned people are known to perform homam in such Shivagni with pure cow ghee and this is a sort of Devi worship.

Regular recitation of Shlokam No. 33 will give all sorts of happiness to the devotees as also wealth and prosperity.

SAUNDARYA LAHARI : SHLOKAM NO. 34

    Sariram twam sambhoh sasi-mihira-vakshoruha-yugam

    Atah seshah seshityayam ubhaya-saadharana taya
    Sthitah sambandho vaam samarasa-parananda-parayoh.

O Devi, I visualize you with your body comprising of Sun and moon as busts as shambhu’s body and the chaste body of Lord Shiva with nine “Vyuhas” as your body. Thus, the relation of possessor and possessed exists in common between you both which is nothing but ultimate bliss and happiness.

Navatmanam : Lord Shiva is Nine Vyuha Swaroopi. The nine vyuhas pertaining to Lord Shiva are Kalam, Kulam, Namam, Gnanam, Siddam, Nadam, Bindu, Kala and Jeevan. The inner meaning Shlokam No. 34 is when a devotee is intensely worshipping Devi, the propitiation to Lord Shiva automatically takes place.

Regular recitation of shlokam No 34 will give relief from chronic ailments, clearance of doubts and getting power of genius.

SAUNDARYA LAHARI : SHLOKAM NO. 35

    Tvam eva svatmanam parinamayithum visva-vapusha
    Chidanand'aakaram Shiva-yuvati-bhaavena bibhrushe.

O Devi, you are the mind, the space, the air, the fire, the water and the earth. You are all these elements and there is nothing other than you. To assert your role as to cover the whole of universe, you take the role of wife of Lord Shiva and devotees see you as a form of bliss and happiness.

The six chakras and elements have been mentioned in Shlokam No. 9 and 10 and form an essential part of Tantra vidya. The six elements form the part of whole universe and the present Shlokam No. 35 clearly explains that Parashakti governs all the elements.

Regular recitation of Shlokam No. 35 will give relief from chronic diseases like Asthama, tuberculosis, lung ailments etc. It will also help in unmarried ladies find suitable partners.

SAUNDARYA LAHARI : SHLOKAM NO. 36

Tavaagna chakrastham thapana shashi koti dhyudhidharam,
Param shambhum vande parimilitha paarswa parachitha
Yamaradhyan bhakthya ravi sashi suchina mavishaye
Niraaloke loke nivasathi hi bhalokha bhuvane

O Devi, Lord Shiva who has the luster and shine of one crore Suryas and Chandras, surrounded by your two forms Saguna and Nirguna Shaktis, stays in your Agna Chakra Sthanam. A devotee who worships such Lord Shiva, will reside in such a world which is much beyond the reach of the rays of Sun and Moon and also beyond the sight of the eye.

Agna Chakra spot is somewhat in between the two eyebrows and is an important place. While applying vibhuti etc., vermillion (kumkumam) is applied on that spot. According to Kashi Khand, if we apply Vibhuti on the forehead, Lord Shiva will protect us and if Gobi Chandanam is applied Lord Vishnu will protect us. Further, if we apply kumkumam, Devi will protect us. In Bharata Bhoomi, Kasi kshetram is considered as Agna Chakra Sthanam which is ruled by Goddess in her forms of Annapurna, Durga and Vishalakshi.

Regular recitation of Shlokam No. 36 will give cure from all kinds of diseases. It will also help in improving eye sight.

SAUNDARYA LAHARI : SHLOKAM NO. 37

Vishuddhou the shuddha sphatika visadham vyoma janakam
Shivam seve devimapi siva samana vyavasitham
Yayo kaanthya sasi kirana saaroopya sarane
Vidhoo thantha dwarvantha vilamathi chakoriva jagathi

Lord Shiva who is of pure crystal form, creates the element of space in your Vishuddi chakra. O Devi, you have the same thoughts as Lord Shiva and I meditate on you both. The light emanating from both of you is like the moon light which removes the darkness of ignorance forever from the mind of the devotees and is like the Chakora Bird playing in the light of Full Moon.
Here the space element or Akasha element is mentioned. It is understood that Akasha Tatwa upasana in Bharata Bhoomi is performed in Chidambara Kshetram. In this Upasana, Lord Shiva and Goddess Shakti are mentioned as Vyomeshwaran and Vyomeshwari. Just as fragrance is an integral part of a flower, Shakti is an integral part of Lord Shiva.

Regular recitation of Shlokam No. 37 will give relief from evil spirits etc. and will also strengthen the mind, increase the moral courage.

SAUNDARYA LAHARI : SHLOKAM NO. 38

    yadālāpādaṣṭādaśaguṇitavidyāpariṇati
ryada ādatte doṣāda guṇamakhilamadbhūyaḥ paya iva || 38 ||

O Devi, I meditate before the two Swans who drink and enjoy the honey from the lotus of knowledge. The swans swim in the lake which is nothing but the mind of great personalities. The 18 arts are created from the sweet utterings of these swans. They separate the good from the bad like water from milk. Here the two swans are referring to Lord Shiva and Shakti.

The eighteen arts mentioned in Shlokam No. 38 are, 4 Vedas, Siksha, Kalpam, Vyakaranam, Niruktam, Sandas, Jyotisham, Meemamsam, Nyayam, Puranam, Dharma Shastram, Ayurvedam, Dhanurvedam, Gandarva Vedam and Needi Shastram.

There is a type of meditation known as “Hamswa Dwandwa Upasanam” and in Bharata Bhoomi the proper place is reported to be Avudayar Temple somewhere near Pudukottai in Tamil Nadu.

Regular recitation of shlokam No. 38 will remove balarishtam of children (serious diseases of children), power to differentiate between good and bad.
