    Indian designers welcome mr. India!

Bollywood hotties such as John Abraham, Milind Soman and Dino Morea were once successful models who with their cutting-edge looks and charming personalities clinched titles at men's pageants.

This season, Miss India Organization launches a project to keep all hot and sexy men on their toes. Mens XP Mr. India 2014 is a unique initiative taken by The Times group to search for the 'Country's Perfect Man' who will represent India at the Mr. World 2014 Pageant in Torbay, UK in June this year.

Apart from men competing for the coveted title, they will also be seen fighting it out for various sub-titles such as Mr. Active, Mr. Digital Icon, Mr. Trendy and Mr. Iron Man to name a few. The participants will be groomed and trained by the best experts in the industry to represent the country at an International platform.

We ask a few designers for their perspective on this new initiative and find out the various qualities a worthy Mr. India should embody. Designers agree that Indian men have come out of their shell and evolved in terms of sense of style, fashion and grooming. Fashion and beauty are no longer a woman's domain in an age where more and more men are taking grooming and fitness regimes seriously than ever before.

Says designer Rahul Khanna, "There has been a drastic change in the way Indian men carry themselves nowadays. It all started with the advent of vibrant menswear collections. Earlier mothers and sisters used to shop for men and they used to wear what they would be told to. Now, they have become more experimental thanks to exposure to movies, television, red carpet events et al. Now, men have started following trends and they like to include colours in their wardrobe unlike a decade ago when they would keep the same kind of garment for ages."

On being asked about the qualities an Indian man should possess beside having an attractive physique, he said, "It is the personality which matters the most. It's the way one carries oneself. Carry the garment, don't let the garment carry you and don't choose blindly, see what suits you."

Padma Shri awardee Wendell Rodricks expresses his happiness on the new venture and says, "The Indian male has evolved for sure. Especially physically. There are as many salons for men as for women. The gyms are full and grooming is on the upswing. Emotionally most are mamma's boys though. The ones who are not are the most interesting. And in that group will come a Mr India. I look forward to see how the contest evolves. May the best Indian man win!"
