Valentine's Day checklist

Asking your dream girl out for valentines, check. Excitement, check. Dinner over candlelight, check.

But if you want to have the perfect date, there are many more 'checks' you need to go through. Here is a quick list to help you nail Valentine's Day this year.

1. Dressed to kill:
You know you look your best with the black shirt which you save only for special occasions. But have you seen it recently? It could have a stain, or could have gotten wrinkled over time. If you are planning to look your best, look closely at the clothes you are going to wear the night before. You don't want to end up in a situation where you realize that your best shirt isn't really that great anymore, or your shoe needs to be cleaned, or your jeans are looking old. This could lead to low self-confidence, and the already high stress levels could get out of control.

2. No reservations:
If you want to go to a top-notch restaurant on Valentine's Day, all the tables might be already reserved. Make dinner reservations in advance, and have a couple of options in mind. A date doesn't always end up perfectly as planned, so make contingency plans.

3. Tight situation:
You don't want to do a Rafael Nadal on this special night. Make sure the only thing riding anywhere is your car. Avoid tight clothes because they tend to leave marks. If you are lucky enough and the date ends with wine at your place, you want to look the best when you are in your birthday suit. Those skinny jeans might leave a tire mark across your waist. The same goes for your socks.

4. Brisk workout:
The fourteenth falls on a work day, so you need to prepare in advance. Nothing turns a woman on more than a self-confident man and if your selfconfidence stems from the way you look, so why not work on it? During your lunch break, hit the office gym. Your body will look tauter, and the increase in metabolic rate and energy levels will serve you well.

5. Dude, how's the car?
Whether you own a Porsche or a Santro, the car is where the interactions really begin. If you don't want the date to turn into a blow out, make sure you clean the car earlier in the day. You don't want it stinking of smoke or her sitting on a fresh stain that looks a little circumspect. Prepare the music for the ride, and be sure that you take an eclectic mix. You don't want your date asking you to turn on the radio because you can't get enough of Madonna.

6 House MD
Even if you think the date will never end with her coming back to your place, be prepared for even that slightest eventuality. Whether it is your ex-girlfriend's clothes or your dirty linen be sure that none of it is in the open. Clean your room, spray some good air freshener. You don't want it smelling of the pizza your roomie burped earlier in the evening. Warn your roommate about the date, and give him sufficient notice if you are taking her home. Other than keeping the house clean, stock it with enough wine and food.

To get the mood sorted, make sure your mood lights are in working order, and if candles are your thing, keep them and matches handy.
