    Remedies for Bad Breath

Ever had that moment when you were trying to talk to some people and they were also trying to keep a distance from you while covering their nose? Well, that is definitely an embarrassing moment isn't it? Let's face it, bad breath is very undesirable, uncomfortable, and can certainly ruin our day. But fortunately, with proper oral hygiene, most cases of halitosis or bad breath can be avoided.

As we are all aware, the basic cause of bad breath is bad oral and dental care. If we do not brush our teeth properly, there might be some left-over food particles that are stuck in between our teeth and this is the start of our problem. This will also be the breeding ground of the bacteria that will build up not just in between our teeth but also on the back of our tongue. That is why a lot of dentists would recommend that we invest in a good and quality toothbrush and toothpaste. If you can, get a toothbrush that is capable of reaching those hard to reach areas of the mouth. If you are able to do this, then you have one culprit out of the list of the cause of bad breath.

Here is a list of home remedies for bad breath that you can try to avoid halitosis.

    1. Herbs, Spices and Parsley. Check your kitchen for cloves, parsley, fennel or anise seeds. Most herbs and spices are natural breath enhancers. You can put either of these herbs in a tiny plastic bag, carry it around with you, and chew it after having an odorous meal.
    2. Mix extracts as a mouthwash alternative. Because most of the commercial mouthwash contains alcohol that can also contribute to bad breath, they are not really advisable to use. Instead, you can make your own natural mouthwash with extracts of calendula, sage, and myrrh gum. Mix these 3 in equal proportions and seal it in a tight jar. Use this mixture four times a day.
    3. Slow down on some dairy products especially those "strong" cheeses such as Camembert, Roquefort, and blue cheese.
    4. Stay away from whiskey, wine, beer, and coffee. These are the top 4 liquid offenders and not only that they can infiltrate your digestive system, they can also attach to your plaques.
    5. Make your toothbrush your buddy and carry it around with you. Or if you want, you can also get a quality traveler toothbrush. If the cause of your bad breath is not as serious as a digestive illness, then religiously brushing your teeth after meal will definitely help keep your breath fresh for the whole day.
