How to choose a right school for your child?

    Dear friends..

i welcome you all to take part in this discussion.

While selecting a school there are so many deciding factors like the place you live, curriculum, your economy, kids IQ, and many more. i am listing here some of the valid points to think before selecting a school for your kid.

Infrastructural facilities include classrooms, playground, toilets, library, computer lab, science lab, audio-video lab, prayer hall and many more. Transportation is another major factor to think about. First let us discuss about infrastructural facilities.

    1. Think about the classrooms.

**check whether the classrooms are tidy, clean and airy with enough lighting facilities.. Nowadays school classrooms are furnished with enough electrical fans and sometimes even airconditioners... but the matter is to check out the natural way of getting fresh air at the time of powercuts.

**next thing to talk about is the furnitures used in the classroom. see whether good quality tables and chairs are provided for kids and there should be ample space between each and every row to move around instead of being congested.

**Blackboards are nowadays accompanied along with smart computer coaching methodology... see whether the school you have selected has the methods of onscreen technological benefits.

**The strength of the students in the classroom should also be taken into account... Teachers can pay attention to each and every kid only if the number of students in a classroom is reasonable.

**Other factors to consider inside a classroom are wall display of the syllabus. Kids get more attracted towards this method of learning using colorful pictures and projects works of kids tagged to the classroom's bulletin boards.

**See whether drinking water is provided in a hygenic way inside the classroom...

**There should be a first aid box and a mini fire extinguisher too.. not at the reach of the children.

Friends...If you have something to say about the classrooms pls join the discussion today... Tomorrow we will share our views about science lab and computer lab.

Re: How to choose a right school for your child?

    Hi Suga

Good start this will bring in lot of inputs which will be useful are parents choose the right school.

The current trend is learning through exploration, direction and adventure which is being forgotten by most schools.

Too much use of technology is becoming detrimental to the growth of the child's mind.

Schools using too much of technology will improve the child's growth is a myth. I know of a school which does not allow children to wear shoes they insist that they should wear only sandals or chappals this will enable the basic growth of the child's foot.

Making children to explore on their own the relevant subjects by working on their own based on the inputs given makes the child more robust and clear about what she is learning makes wonders.

We should look for schools adopting to the above atleast in the middle school level.

Now people look at schools based on the academic results they provide and not based on the atmosphere.

    Let us discuss further.....

Re: How to choose a right school for your child?

Both uma and niveta have registered their own views about schools and it is upto the parents to decide what type of curriculum they want to choose for their children. What is right and what is wrong is left to the parents' decision...

and only out of experience we can find out the real way how schools are functioning...no one is going to decide based on the appearance i believe...

now let us talk about computer labs.

A good ventilated room/hall for computer lab is essential .Students are going to spend a lot of time in the computer lab, so it becomes necessary that the room should be big and airy. All the computer tables need to be placed in such a manner that the students can easily see the teacher if they want. The tables should not be too low or too high.

must needed thread suganthi, since education in our country is very bad, and also the perception of education by the parents and the government is also bad.

Oh that's great uma, namma countrylayum ippadi yosikuranga... very good..

I too know a school, in which they allow only fresh fruits and vegetables as a snack during interval. They won't allow biscuits or bakery items etc.

Satya, that's good to know the education system in the country with no competition, giving importance in sports and practical teaching.

So only they can bag medals in Olympics...

But in India, We have only 2 periods in a week for Games, but in that also teachers take special class in Games period only. Then how can we expect India to get Gold medal etc... etc...

We have to come back to our own method of teaching from the Mekkale's teaching method.

Re: How to choose a right school for your child?

Like to share a Newspaper article which I had read a year before,

How to choose a right school for your child?-mekale.jpg
