    How to Buy a Moisturizer

    How to Buy a Moisturizer

While buying a moisturizer, there are several factors you need to consider.

All skin types are not the same, and neither are there one-size-fits-all solutions for your skin. With so many choices in the market (moisture intensive, for dry/ oily skin), you need to pick a cream that's right for you.

To prevent future damage due to sun exposure, you need a high SPF count in your moisturizer. In your late twenties and thirties, it's the fine lines that need attention from hydrating products. And, in your 40's, its obviously anti-aging and skin repair products for a more supple and glowing skin.

As your skin loses moisture and tone, you'll need ultrarich, deeply moisturizing creams.

For summer's humid climate, a light moisturizer is all you need. However, winter's cold chafing winds require a richer moisturizer for more protection.

For summer months, you can apply a thicker moisturizer to your body skin.

A daytime product is essential for those exposed regularly to pollution and sun exposure.

To help make up your mind. dab it on at the back of your hand, and pay attention to the texture, and how the moisturizer gets absorbed into your skin.

This will also help you screen out products based on any allergic reaction you may have. People with sensitive skin should buy a hypoallergenic and fragrance-free moisturizer. “In general, choose one that contains less than 10 ingredients," says California dermatologist Sonia Badreshia-Bansal, MD.

    Time of Day

According to Florida dermatologist Andrea Cambio, MD, "Choose a light moisturizer for day and a heavier one for nighttime,"

    Skin Type | Skin Conditions

Apart from specific allergies to chemical compounds, you also might have skin condition that requires specific moisturizers.

For example itchy skin may require a 1% hydrocortisone steroid skin cream (after asking your doctor). Oily or acne-prone skin needs a non-comedogenic facial moisturizer It wont clog pores) "I like alpha-hydroxy acids, which are also antiaging," recommends Chicago dermatologist Carolyn Jacob, MD.

Ingredients for dry skin moisturizers include hyaluronic acid and dimethicone to keep your skin hydrated. Glycerin, propylene glycol, proteins, and urea attract water to your skin.Lanolin, mineral oil, and petrolatum seal moisture into your skin.

    Choose Natural

Whenever possible, choose natural ingredients over chemical and artificial ingredients.

A special word for 'mineral oil' which sounds like something good for your skin, but is doesn't absorb well absorb into your skin. Instead, natural vegetable or nut oil is better.

Lesser chemical compounds is also better - these chemicals are going to be absorbed in your skin and locked into your body's fat cells.
