5 delicious and healthy apple recipes

We won't repeat the popular apple and doctor adage here, but we're sure you're aware of the health benefits an apple brings into your daily life.

And to add taste to their health quotient, apples bring tremendous flavour to recipes this autumn season. Every nutritionist's favourite fruit, 100 gms of fresh apple contains only 100 calories. Rich in dietary fiber, it is full of Vitamin C and beta carotene. More than 20 different varieties are available worldwide, and today we give you 5 healthy apple recipes which can be prepared in a jiffy.

Shredded red cabbage with apples:
Toss some butter and onions in a pan and stir fry lightly for around 2 minutes. Add cabbage, cloves and hot stock. Stir fry, adding salt and pepper to taste. Cook for around 5 minutes. Now slowly add your peeled and sliced pieces of apple in the pan. Cover the pan for around 10 minutes, making sure the mixture doesn't stick to the pan. Place the mixture in a serving dish.

Serve it with sprinkling of chives.

Carrot-apple salad With cilantro:
Toss ingredients such as apple, grated carrot, chopped olives, fresh cilantro, a clove of garlic finely chopped, extra-virgin olive oil, lemon juice and cumin in a bowl. Season with salt and pepper, and serve.

Mini tarts with apple-ginger topping:
Heat oil in a medium non-stick skillet. Add apples and cherries and cook for 3 minutes or until tender, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature. Stir in remaining topping ingredients. In a small bowl, whisk together yogurt, vanilla essence, and no-calorie sweetner and set aside. At the time of serving, spoon equal amounts of yogurt mixture (about 1
1/2 tsp/7 mL) in each of the 15 mini tarts. Top each with equal amounts of apple mixture (about 2 tsp/10 mL). Serve immediately for peak texture.

Double apple crumble:
Preheat oven at 375 degrees. Take a large bowl and add 3 large cups of finely sliced apples with 1 tablespoon of apple butter. Arrange the mixture in a baking tray coated with 1/4th tablespoon of olive oil. Now combine 1/4th cup of all-purpose flour, 2 tablespoon of honey, 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon and 1/8th tablespoon of salt in a medium bowl. Now take 1 tablespoon of chilled
butter and brown sugar mixture and add it to the mixture. Pour this mixture over the apple mixture.
Bake it at 375 degrees for 45 minutes or until light golden brown.

Munchable apple chips:
Heat oven to 225 degrees. Mix sugar and cinnamon in a bowl. Organize apple slices on 2 baking sheets lined with parchment paper; sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and apples. Bake for 1 hour until apples are golden crisp and brown in colour. Serve hot or store in apple tight containers. They can last for 5 days at a stretch.
