    Correct Weight for a Woman

    Correct Weight for a Woman

The correct weight for one woman may not be the same for another.

Most women who exercise and eat a healthy diet will undoubtedly be well within their normal weight range.

Therefore, it is important to determine the correct weight for your individual size and shape.

As a rule of thumb, a woman at five-feet or 153 cm tall should weigh roughly 100 pounds or 46 kg. For every inch over five-feet, add five pounds. While this is certainly a good place to start, please be advised that this does not take into account a woman’s body frame (small, medium or large) or amount of muscle mass. Therefore, health specialists have come up with a “range” that accounts for muscle mass and stature. By following the aforementioned equation and adding a few pounds (accordingly) to account for muscle and/or frame, the end result will be a range that suits your body.

You see, since muscle weighs more than fat, the Body Mass Index (BMI) calculator is not an accurate means of determining your correct weight as it solely accounts only for height and weight. Therefore, knowing your percentage of body fat is a more accurate means of calculating your correct weight because that correlates more specifically with overall health.

So instead of pinpointing a magic number, women should aim to stay within the recommended range for their height and age. But also, women should try to stay within the healthy range of what is considered ideal when it comes to body fat percentage. That said, the “normal” range recommended for women is 22-25%. While this seems high, remember that women carry more fat than men to protect the body for reproduction and caring for a fetus.

Remember: knowledge is power. By understanding your ideal weight,
you are on your way to a healthy lifestyle!

    Regards,
    viji
