10 Warning signs your child could be overweight

Childhood obesity is increasing at a shocking rate, and many children are starting to exhibit adult diseases, such as diabetes and heart disease. If you suspect that your child is on the road to obesity, take note of the following 10 warning signs:

1. Snoring
If your child snores, this can be a sign of extra fat in the neck.

2. Lack of exercise
Does your child get sufficient exercise daily?

3. Too much screen time
Does your child get more than an hour a day of "screen time" (video games, watching TV, computer)?

4. Unbalanced diet
Does your child eat too many carbohydrates and not enough fruits and vegetables?

5. Asthma
Does your child have asthma? If your child has asthma, he might be less able to exercise, which puts him at risk for becoming obese.

6. Easily exhausted
Is your child exhausted after climbing a small flight of stairs?

7. Overweight parents
If you or your spouse is overweight, your child has a high risk of becoming obese.

8. Improper diet
Is your child allowed to snack on unhealthy items in between meals?

9. Overeating
Offering second and third helpings at mealtime will teach your child to overeat.

10. Unhealthy beverages
Does your child always drink cooldrinks or juice instead of water?

If you are concerned about your son or daughter's weight gain, consult your pediatrician or nutritionist soon.
