hi all,

My daughter is now 5 months and is showing some signs of wants more milk. She is chewing his mouth while we eats anything before her, and also cries a lot, if we eat before her. I know the reccomended age for weaning is 6 months But my family members think i should start weaning her, since she itself asking foods from us. Im not sure, any suggestions please?

Hi sumathi sri,
Its high time to start with solids for your baby...
Normally by 4 months babies are introduced to mashed biscuits(parle g/milkbikis),carrot, potato puree
She is growing up and she needs more food.. your milk supply will slow down after 6 months and also will not be enough for her...
You can introduce ragi kanji..pottukadalai kanji by 5 months...just 1 tsp of powder in 1 cup of water.. and allow it to cook and get thick ...introduce puree d vegetables like carrot, peas, potato, sweet potato, beans...and fruits like apples, pears, prunes...but boil it first both veggies and fruits and then puree it...

So get your parents suggestion too....

hope it helps...:)

Hi Sumathi

Like Lakshmi said your feeding may not be sufficient for your kid

your baby will need some ‘solid’ food in her diet to give her the additional nutrients she needs in order to thrive.

Remember, up until now your baby has only ever had milk, so the taste and texture of any food you give her will be a totally new experience.

She may not like it at first and spit it straight back at you, or she may love it and immediately demand more – both reactions are quite normal.

At first, you should offer no more than one or two new tastes every few days. Once your baby is happy with these, you can introduce new foods and eventually start mixing different foods together.

Don’t try to force your baby to eat something that she obviously dislikes, wait for a week or two and then try the food again.

The first foods you give your baby should be bland and smooth.

Baby rice is a good first food, or you could try root vegetables like potato or carrot, and fruit such as banana and cooked apple or pear.

all the best

Hi Sumathi,

She is too young to wean. Try to avoid solids until she is 6 month.
Start some solid (stream cook veg and fruit in idly cooker / blend it and feed her) from 6 months. Try the veg. first then fruits.
Introduce one food at a time. (3 days interval needed for a new item)
But don't stop breast feeding until she is one. You should start weaning in 11th month, reduce feeding gradually. if you feed 8 times a day, next day reduce to 7 times , then 6 times..
I am mother of 3, I breast feed until they turned one.
Breastfeeding helps defend against infections, prevent allergies, and protect against a number of chronic conditions. Till now they can't replicate the nutrition in breast milk in formula.
