Weddings in our country are synonymous which luxury and riches in the form of intricate silks, heavy jewelry and over the top opulence. It is sure a treat to all senses, but somewhere in its midst, comfort takes the backseat.

We know of women, who get jitters just because they had to wear sarees during their wedding. They aren’t comfortable in it and it shows in all the pictures. So, if you are not interested in wearing a saree on your wedding day yet not very keen to invest in a Bridal lehengha (that you would rarely wear later), you can be a Salwar kameez Bride.

Now don’t get shocked at my suggestion, Salwar kameez isn’t just casual wear. It is a fact that Brides of olden times used to wear Salwar Kameez on their weddings but with the passage of time, people started considering it casual and hence Lehanga and Saree came in trend. Though it is mainly the Punjabi’s who have been known to wear a salwar suit on their wedding, brides from other culture have also started adopting it and so many designers are working on it now.

Salwar Kameez or Churidar kurta offers the perfect combination of elegance and comfort. Bridal salwar kameez is often adorned with a lot of embellishments, like heavy embroidery (with silver or golden thread), stones, crystals and sequins, to make it look rich and luxurious. Created using materials like pure and raw silk, matka silk and even silk cotton, it spells pure class. Crepe, tulle and net are other additional materials. A touch of brocade, boosts up the traditional score board. Keep the dupattas soft and fuss free for a relaxed look.

In terms of silhouettes, anarkalis and maxi rule the roost now. Heavily embellished mid calf length to ankle length kurtas are in trend. Short sleeves/ sleeveless is a big no, with full and churi sleeves taking centre stage to go with the maxi length of the kurta. In the bridal kurtas, keep the necklines slightly low, so that you can show off your gorgeous necklaces. Also the back can be a deep neck, with tie up tassels of beads and crystals. Chunky earrings and hath pool are must for a salwar kameez bride, as she has very little opportunity of wearing bangles.

When it comes to colour, red, gold and maroon are unbeatable for weddings. But cool colours like icy blues, white, beiges, a pale glimmery greens are most suited for reception and pre wedding events like cocktail parties. Fuchsia pink, peacock green and royal blue are colours a daring bride should definitely consider. A stunning Salwar Kameez with intricate embroidery in a luxurious fabric is beauty unparalleled, just perfect for brides looking for something unique.
