What's the story?

The 8-year-old title character of the animated series ARTHUR is a sweet, curious kid with more than his share of self-consciousness. He shares insecurities, adventures, and the spotlight with a varied cast of friends and family members. Although technically Arthur is an aardvark and his friends are other kinds of animals, they act just like real people. Based on the book series by Marc Brown, Arthur premiered in 1996 and is a recipient of the George Foster Peabody Award and multiple Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Children's Animated Program.

What's the story?

When evil threatens galactic peace, self-declared “Defender of the Cosmos” Atomic Betty (voiced by Tajja Isen) is quick to defend the existence of residents of planets near and far. A mild-mannered junior high student by day, when duty calls, Atomic Betty jumps into action with her faithful partners, enthusiastic co-pilot Sparky (Rick Miller) and omniscient robot X-5 (Bruce Hunter). Together the team attempts to thwart the advances of villains like Maximus I.Q. (Colin Fox). The show originally aired from 2004-2008.

Word Girl

Brainy heroine uses vocab to outwit bad guys.

AGE: 6

What's the story?

In WORDGIRL, a heroic grade-schooler uses her proficiency with the English language to rid her hometown of nefarious intruders. To any onlooker, spunky girl next door Becky Botsford (voiced by Dannah Feinglass) seems no different from her fifth-grade peers. But when trouble strikes, Becky's caped alter ego WordGirl zooms off her monkey sidekick, Captain Huggy Face, to oust the bad guys with her double whammy of brawns and brain. Though she does employ her super strength at times (after all, what else is a girl with a leveling left hook to do?), WordGirl relies more on her grasp of the English language to outwit her vocabulary-challenged opponents.
