Many of us think that a heart attack is sudden and unexpected just like we see in the movie scenes in which a guy clutches his chest and falls over the ground. But in reality, it begins slowly as a mild pain or discomfort. Generally, people don’t recognize the signs and symptoms of heart attack and wait too long before getting help. According to a survey, every year about 1.1 million people in United States experience a heart attack in which 47% people die as they don’t seek help in time. Although it is a life-threatening condition, you can save a life or minimize damage to the heart by learning the warning signs and taking medical help immediately. The early signs and symptoms of heart attack are different from person to person and may be observed hours, days or even weeks prior to a heart attack.

Heart attack is caused by the blockage formed in one of the coronary arteries. The blockage reduces or completely obstructs the blood supply in a section of the heart muscle, so the patient begins to experience signs and symptoms of heart attack. If immediate treatment such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or electrical shock (defibrillation) is not given to the patient, the heart muscle begins to die. People can experience heart attacks any time: at work or play, during resting or in motion, etc. Tobacco, diabetes, high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, lack of physical activity, obesity, stress and illegal use of drugs are the common factors that increase the chances of having a heart attack.

Early Signs Of Heart Attack

Discomfort in the Chest
Usually, people take discomfort and pain in chest as a common pain caused by indigestion or heartburn and consume antacids. Discomfort in the center of chest is the most common symptom experienced by both men and women. The discomfort can be accompanied by mild or strong pain, which lasts more than a few minutes or may come and go on intervals. Patient can also feel like fullness, burning sensation, uncomfortable pressure or squeezing in the chest. If you experience discomfort and pain together, then call a doctor immediately.

Sweating
Sweating is often overlooked as a symptom of heart attack particularly among the people who are overweight, have a problem with temperature regulation or residing in hot and humid environments. Excessive sweating with cold, clammy skin in cool conditions can indicate an awaiting heart attack. If you note this symptom, then you should consult a medical professional.

Numbness in Arms
Early symptoms of a heart attack also include numbness in one or both arms. Experiencing numbness particularly in the left arm is among the most serious symptoms. This pain can be mild or intense and shifts to the sides.

Breathing Problems
Rapid breathing and shortness of breath may take place as there is no enough supply of blood to the heart. Breathing problems can be experienced while doing daily activities like walking, climbing stairs, doing exercise, etc. with or without chest discomfort. It is coupled with anxiety.

Nausea

This is another common symptom of heart attack. It is caused as the supply of blood to the right coronary artery is obstructed. All the heart attack patients don’t experience it. Most of the time nausea is followed by dizziness, vomiting, difficulty breathing, light-headedness and excessive sweating. If you experience repeated bouts of nausea, instead of ignoring it speak to the healthcare provider.

Slurring while Speaking
Feeling trouble while communicating or speaking could be the indication of a great attack. You may have slurry and unclear speech. If you think you are experiencing this symptom, then seek a medical care without delay.

Unresponsiveness
Don’t ignore if certain parts of the body like shoulders, arms or back of the neck stop responding to your wish. Sudden unresponsiveness in body organs can be a sign of an imminent heart attack. Contact your medical doctor for further diagnosis.
