Easy to prevent arthritis
A common product of a sedentary lifestyle coupled with poor nutrition, Arthritis is the swelling in and around joints.

15% of the Indian population suffers from this debilitating joint disease. Arthritis reduces movement and causes much pain as we grow older. Statistics reveal that those suffering from arthritis have three times as many unhealthy days than a normal person. The effects are both physical and mental. While curing arthritis is a slow and painful process, methods of prevention can easily be incorporated into a healthy lifestyle plan. Here's how.

Liquid diet:
Drinking a lot of water helps maintain weight while reducing changes of obesity. Water is very essential in the body for the lubrication of joints. It will reduce the toxin content in the body making the joints fit and the body healthy. When the joints move, a suction pulls water from the bone marrow to the joint cavity, if there is available water. If there is not enough water, the joints can't glide as they should. So, an increased water intake and being hydrated can keep that water supply constant and reduce some of the pain.

Juice it up!
The antioxidants present in citrus juices are known to reduce chances of arthritis. A glass of orange juice or a sweet lime in the morning would be a perfect start to a healthy day. Fruits and vegetables that contain Beta-cryptoxanthin are not only contributors to healthy bones and skin, but also help boost the immune system, which is directly involved with Rheumatoid arthritis.

Drink that Milk!
One glass of milk can prevent many ailments, arthritis being one of them. The calcium present in the milk is essential for prevention of arthritis. It should be made a part of one's daily diet. Other dairy product such as yogurt, cheese and paneer will be an added benefit to a healthy lifestyle. Goat's milk is said to bring about marvelous results in the cure of arthritis.

Walk it out.
Our joints need to be active, so that they remain healthy. Taking brisk walks, jogging and running are basic ways of doing this. In addition, yoga, swimming and stretching are a few stress-free exercises for the joints. As added benefits, these activities also help control weight, and improve overall function. Weight control can be important to people who have arthritis because extra weight puts extra pressure on many joints.

The right fit.
Given the right pair of shoes you could win the world, and a bad pair of shoes could get you a whole world of problems. The comfort quotient of shoes always trumps the style quotient. Shoes should be padded and supporting the whole foot. And they absolutely must be of your size.

Maintain good posture.
Good posture is when the back is straight, and so are the shoulders - not slouched. While sitting on a chair at work supports the back with the back rest, there are many other seating arrangements that don't offer that support, for instance a bench at the gym. Always maintain straight posture no matter what structural help is or isn't at hand. Keep moving the legs while constantly clenching and unclenching the toes. This gives the lumbar support and the muscles in the legs movement.

Exercise at work.
If you have a desk job and have to keep sitting for prolonged hours, then taking short breaks just to walk around is highly recommended. Also small considerations like standing up while talking to someone and also walking around while talking on the phone help get the little exercise you can at work.

Drop the extra baggage.
Avoid lifting heavy stuff; remember "if u can push it, or pull it why carry it". Carrying heavy stuff puts a lot of stress on the joints, making the cartilages that support them weak, causing pain.

Fish oils, cod liver oils are said to help in prevention of arthritis. They are rich sources of omega 3 fatty acids, which help maintain the body's general health. Talk to a professional healthcare provider to get a better idea about how much omega 3 you should consume in a day. Natural sources like egg yolks and salmon are also recommended.
