Hi Aspiring PO's,

As SBI has announced PO exams, I think some of you would be interested to apprear..This thread might be useful to you...

In this thread I would like to share some english language practice questions which may be useful to you. I am compiling the questions which I practised ( years back) and depending on your responses, we can take this on a daily basis...

Now, as you know, already SBI PO questions are to be asked in,

English Language - 30 Marks
Quantitative Aptitude - 35 Marks
Reasoning Ability - 35 Marks

We shall start with english language preparation

Few tips before going into preparation.
1. Practice reading
2. Use a dictionary
3. Self help Books
4. Word List
5. Gauging meaning - this means guessing the meaning from the sentence.

Example:
Because experience had convinced her that he was both self seeking and avaricious, she rejected the likelihood that his donation had been ______.
a. redundant b) frivolous c) inexpensive d) ephemeral e) altruistic

Now, What makes a question hard?

there are 4 ways you can approach a question.

1. Vocabulary Level
2. Grammatical Competency
3. Tone - means attitude of subject
4. Style - means poetic or prosaic

Fundamental 1: Before you look at the choices, read the sentence and think of a word that makes sense...

Fundamental 2: Look at all the possible choices

Fundamental 3: Watch for signal words that link one part of sentence to another

Fundamental 4: Break up complex sentences into simpler components

Nouns – used as a name of a person, place or thing. 5 Kinds

Certain rules regarding nouns:

1. Proper nouns are sometimes used as common nouns
Example:
a) Shiva is Gandhiji of our class (Incorrect)
b) Shiva is the Gandhiji of our class (correct)
Here, Gandhiji does not mean Mahatma Gandhi.. The word stands for the qualities he possessed. This is metaphorical common noun.

2. Some nouns have same form both in singular and plural form.
a) A deer was caught.
b) Deer were caught.
Singular and plural form of the noun Deer is same.

Some other words that have both singular and plural as same are as follows.
Sheep
Apparatus
Species
Series
Hundred
Dozen
Hair etc
