THE LONG - THE SHORT OF IT!

laurentotallyonesided.jpg

It works on literally any hair type – short, long, curly, pin straight, anything! It’s so great for those mornings when you’re in a rush, but need something to pull your look together. Think of it as a french braid, but you only add in new hair from one side (the top). Follow these steps + be patient! You’ll get it…

  1. Like to part slightly off-center for this! On the heavier side, grab a section at your hairline. Split it into three.
  2. Start it just like you would a regular french braid.
  3. Next add in a piece of hair from the top, still like a regular french braid.
  4. Now skip the part where you’d grab a new piece from the bottom + keep braiding instead.
  5. Then take another piece from the top + add it in.
  6. Continue with this pattern until you have 5-7 sections added in.
  7. Once you’re just past the ear, stop adding in new hair. Just do a regular braid + tie it off with clear elastic in the top picture.

BRAIDY BUNCH

  1. Start this like a regular braid, but drop the top piece through to the bottom and leave it there.
  2. Gently twist the 2 pieces you’re left with upward.
  3. Add a new 3rd piece in between + drop it through.
  4. Twist again and repeat. Keep going until you get to the back. Tie it with a clear elastic, tuck the end under, and secure with a bobbypin.
  5. Remember there are only 2 main steps to this braid: twist + add a new piece. Imagine you’re just making a twist with only two pieces, but each time you do, you feed a new piece of hair through before you make the next twist. So you never actually keep the new piece. It’s really easy once you get it going. Try it on a friend first so you can see what you’re doing and how the pattern develops. Then try it on yourself!

1.Part your hair into two sections by splitting it down the middle.
2.Starting at the crown of your head, make the curve from the top of the heart. Stop at the back of your ear. Don’t worry about going all the way to the bottom of the heart, only go to your ear.
3.Clip that hair out of the way as seen above.
4. Like to do this braid using an “inside out french braid” instead of regular because it shows the shape more, but you can do either! Start french braiding at the part (as seen above) and curve the braid around to your ear. At this point you’re only using hair from outside the heart shape, not the hair that’s in the clip.
5.Braid it down to the back of the ear and then take the clip out. Now you can start joining in that hair. NOTE: don’t start joining in hair from the inside of the heart until you get to the back of the ear. That’s the trick!
6.Braid all the way down to the nape of the neck and clip it off.
7.Do the exact same thing (or have someone help you do the exact same thing on the other side.
8.Once you get to the nape of the neck on the other side, it gets a little tricky.Tie it off with a clear elastic and you’re done.
9. For added texture, pull gently at each piece of the braid!
