Heartburn during pregnancy
Heartburn or acid reflux is common during pregnancy.

Causes
  1. The main cause is as the baby gets bigger it pushes the stomach upwards so the acid in your stomach enter the oesophagus.
  2. And the second cause is due to the Pregnancy hormones
  3. The problem may get worse in the late stages of pregnancy due to uterus getting bigger.

Tips to Avoid Heartburn:
  1. Avoid foods that create heartburn. Such as spicy food, citrus fruits and juices and tomato based food items
  2. Have little meals frequently, avoid eating large meals.
  3. Eat 3 hours before going to bed.
  4. Avoid eating too quickly, chew well and eat.
  5. Avoid bending or lying down right after eating.
  6. Avoid tight clothes, try to wear comfortable clothes.

Foods to Avoid:
  1. Onions, garlic or spicy foods.
  2. Tomato based food items.
  3. Foods less in fiber content.
  4. Too much Masala food items.
  5. Avoid taking too much foods like dosa, adai etc.

Home remedies for Heartburn during pregnancy

  1. Have a cup of skimmed milk to settle heartburn.
  2. Eat 3-4 badam to get rid of heartburn.
  3. Coconut water is an acid neutralizer. So try drinking Coconut water to give quick relief.
  4. Bananas and melons are some great fruits for acid reflux.
