Some easy ways to prevent large facial pores:

  • Always remove your makeup before going to sleep. Sleeping with your makeup on will only lead to clogged pores and blemishes.
  • Apply sunscreen on your face, neck, and hands every time you step out in the sun. Make sure the sun protection factor is adequate for your skin type.
  • Use skin products that contain salicylic acid to help remove dead skin and excess oil and prevent the formation of blackheads.
  • When applying make-up, go easy on the foundation as too much can exaggerate large pores instead of hide them. In case you suffer from some skin condition you could use some oil control powder to prevent any side effects to your facial skin.
  • Have regular facials to keep your skin clean and healthy.

Combine the white of a small, cold egg with 1 tsp. cornstarch in a mixing bowl, and beat with a wire whisk or fork until it's frothy. The mixture should not be lumpy. Apply a thin, even layer to your face, and lie down on your back for about 20 minutes, or until the mixture dries completely. Rinse with warm water, and repeat once or twice weekly as needed.

Steaming your face regularly is one of the best ways to open the pores on your face and cleanse your skin.
Hi Sakthi,

Steaming will not tighten the pores it will only open up the pores. Few years back in beauty parlours facial treatment includes steaming to open up the pores to elimate the black heads but since few years most of the beauty parlours have stopped doing the steaming since it opens the pores and its being a tough task to close the pores. Steaming is okay to some extent but not regularly, still make sure to splash ice cold water on the face immediately after steaming. As far as i know steaming is not advisable to do it on a regular basis.
Its just a news for your knowledge.

Hi Anu,
First you must understand how pores get enlarged so that you can prevent the pore to expand further when you attempt to shrink your pores. In some individuals the pores on the face may appear enlarged. The most common reason for enlarged pores is genetic factors. Certain individuals are born with the vulnerability to developing open pores. In some cases, the skin may be producing excess oil thereby causing the pores to widen. Improper hygiene may also contribute to open pores as dirt and dead skin cells may collect in the pores causing them to enlarge. Prolonged and continuous exposure to the sun causes thickening of the skin, which could also lead to enlarged pores. Sun exposure also results in collagen and elastic loss from the skin, causing the peripheries of the pores to get pulled down by the tissues beneath the surface of the skin.
One cannot really close enlarged pores, but it is possible to shrink them through proper cleansing methods and simple home remedies. Use a mild cleanser to clean the face regularly. The pores must be kept clean and free from oil and skin debris. Regular exfoliation of the skin is also beneficial in getting rid of dead skin cells and oil.

Astringent helps to shrink pores. Honey is a natural astringent.

The most effective way to shrink enlarged pores instantly is the application of ice. Place a cold compress over the open pores using ice or a cold washcloth. Using cold water to wash the face will also help to tighten the pores.

Toning is also an effective way to shrink open pores. Natural toners will be gentle on the skin. Also opt for toners that are free of alcohol as this will prevent dryness of the skin. Apply toner to the skin twice a day to tighten the pores. A beneficial natural toner can be made using tomatoes. Mash a fresh tomato and apply to the face. Leave it on for five minutes and then rinse. Tomato juice helps to shrink the pores due to its acidic nature.

Another home remedy for tightening the pores is to prepare a mixture of egg white and lemon juice. Warm the mixture slightly and after it cools, apply it to the face.

Olay total effects which is advertized as "fights 7 signs of ageing" is also good. My sister tried it and she said that she could see visible changes in her face after using it continuously for 2 months. Still she is using it and is quite happy with the product. You can also try it.
