[h=1]How can you guide your kids into a healthy life?[/h]
How do you get your kids on board with a healthy lifestyle? Know that when your kids see you blazing a healthy path, they just might follow in your footsteps. If you want your kids to have the best chance of living a healthy life, you’ve got to equip them now with the right mindset and habits to take with them into adulthood.
Learn about what you eat
Kids have to know what they are eating. Whether its carbs or proteins…They have to know what it is and what is the use of eating such foods. For example: carbs are for energy and proteins help your muscles work.
Whether its dinnertime or lunch time, make the most of it to teach your kids about foods.
Kids take on your habits
Your kids watch your every move. So if you eat a salad every day, they will be watching and they will consider it as part of an everyday must. But you can’t ask your kids to do things you don’t do. You can’t ask them to eat their veggies if you never do, nor can you preach the health benefits of exercise if you never get out there and sweat. If your kids watch you work out regularly, make healthier desserts, find delicious ways to prepare veggies make smoothies or healthy snacks and drink lots of water, they will pick up your habits. But beware not to make such a big deal out of it out in the open. If you’re obsessed with the scale, you are teaching your kids to be obsessed with the scale. Therefore, Show them a healthy relationship to the body and to food.
In addition to that, if you have a whiteboard on which you put everyone’s tasks on it and you mention for example: from 9:00 to 10:00 mom working out, it would be a plus. Your kids will see you prioritizing your health. This is a good way to teach your kids the value of health and taking care of yourself.
Get your kids involved in sports.
Encourage your kids to take part in activities and sports; whether it’s an individual sport such as Tennis or Squash or swimming, or a team sport such as soccer or basket ball or dancing.
Sports have a lot of benefits to kids. The list is long but it brings on camaraderie, teach teamwork, and encourage friendships. Sports show kids to believe in their bodies and what their bodies can do, take care of their health, learn leadership skills and work as a team. Kids learn about winning and losing.
Make your kids pick up the message
If you want to introduce healthy food at home and get rid of unhealthy ones. It’s your choice. You need to explain to your kids why you are doing so. They might come to you complaining about what they saw at school and they would like to eat it at home. You cannot budge, because once you made a decision and want to be convincing, you cannot take it back. Encourage your kids to eat at healthy restaurants instead of fast food places. Sometimes we all opt for what’s easy, especially when a day goes haywire, but as long as your choices are healthy most of the time, your kids get the message. They will eventually understand that at home, healthy is a lifestyle.
Work out as a family!
If you despise something, you probably won’t do it, and you definitely won’t stick with it. Therefore, find a type of exercise you love to do and encourage your kids to do the same. Get active as a whole family. Simply have a goal to move more and get every day activity. Go for a hike, swim or bike, or try something new like paddle boarding. If your kids learn that exercise time can be fun time — solo or as a family — what more could you ask for?
