Dear Sujathapradeep, don't go and search for ready made vendhayappodi. Just buy vendhayam from your near by departmental stores (100 gm Rs 13 approx) and just fry it on a dry kadaai or just with few drops of Gingelly oil. Don't fry for long. just few minutes only. Then you put the same in the mixie and powder it. In this way if you do it, the powder will be so much bitter in taste.

Hence there are two ways to get the bitter taste to go without compromising on the goodness of fenugreek. Following ways are suggested for that. These methods I read in the net (2 Ways to Make Fenugreek Powder for a Healthy Body)

[h=2]First Method to Make Fenugreek Powder[/h]The necessary ingredients are

  1. Fenugreek 200 gms
  2. Blackgram 100 gms
  3. Palm candy 600 gm
Clean fenugreek seeds thoroughly. Pour 400 ml of milk in an earthen pot and drop the cleaned fenugreek seeds in it. After 12 hours filter out the soaked fenugreek seeds. Now dry this milk soaked seeds in shade. Once dry, drop the seeds in 400 ml tender coconut water. After 12 hours, again filter out the seeds. Dry the seeds again in shade. Once dried, the seeds are powdered to a nice form.
Clean the blackgram thoroughly. Take 200 ml of milk in an earthen pot. Drop the cleaned blackgram in milk. After 3 hours, filter out the blackgram and let it dry in shade. Once dried, the seeds are sauted in ghee (a spoonful) in an earthenware. This fried blackgram is then powdered nicely and added to the fenugreek powder.
Palm candy is also powdered and added to this mix. This combination is then stored in a glass jar.


[h=2]How to Consume This Powder[/h]After breakfast, two spoonful of this preparation is taken with warm water or milk. Follow the same procedure after supper. For best results this is to be followed for at least 40 days.




[h=2]An Alternative Method[/h]Following ingredients are needed.

  1. Fenugreek 200 gms
  2. Blackgram 100 gms
  3. Cumin seeds 5 gms
  4. Pepper 10 gms
  5. Raw Rice 1200 gms
Clean fenugreek thoroughly. Put the cleaned fenugreek in an earthen pot. Drop 400 ml of lemon juice into the pot. After 12 hours filter out the fenugreek and dry it in shade. Once dried, it is ground into nice powder.
Clean blackgram thoroughly. Put blackgram in an earthen pot and pour 200 ml of lemon juice into it. After 3 hours, filter out the blackgram and dry it in shade. Once dried, it is saute in ghee (one spoonful) in an earthenware. Allow it to cool and then powder it nicely.
The cumin seeds are fried lightly. Similarly pepper is powdered and sauted in ghee as above.
The fenugreek powder, blackgram powder, pepper powder are mixed together.
The raw rice is also cleaned dried and broken down to pieces. Add the fenugreek and other powders to this raw rice.
How to use this.
Water is added to this powder and heated and made into a congee (porridge like) consistency. Add a pinch of salt and take this instead of breakfast. You can also add milk to this combination. This is ideal for children above 7 years also.

my doctor asked me to eat this before meals everyday. kindly help me to know where to get it or how to prepare it???
Hi Sujatha... Here is the method for making vendhya podi (Fenegreek powder)

Ingredients

  • Vendhayam - 50 gm
  • Mustard - 100 gm
  • Cashew - 50 gm
  • Red chilli - 30 gm
Method

  • Heat a pan.
  • Add vendhayam, mustard, cashew, red chilli and dry roast.
  • Grind to a powder with salt and turmeric powder when still hot.
Note:
You can also use groundnut for making this podi.
