Introducing rice to your toddler

Apart from the mashed potatoes in cream and cheese, your toddler may equally enjoy rice in many ways.

Not all toddlers look at food the same way. Some have a naturally good appetite, while some are fussy eaters. For mothers, feeding a toddler the adequate amount of nutritional food becomes a laborious task. However, mothers too don't give up when it comes to trying different things. After all, that is the best way to know what your child likes.

If rice is what your toddler enjoys, here's how you can try variants by adding different ingredients:

Rice with dal: A tried and tested recipe rice and dal is the simplest thing to make. Cook rice and dal. Finely mash the dal and rice together. Add little salt and add ghee. Mix these well before you give it to your toddler.

Rice with ground fenugreek: Called methkoot in Marathi, the elders say kids love methkkot bhhat. You can also prepare methkoot at home or get a pack available in the market. For preparing methkoot you need to have fenugreek seeds at home. Finely grind the fenugreek seeds. Add a pinch of salt. Mix well, and then add ½ tsp of this ground fenugreek to a small bowl of rice. Add ghee. Mix all the ingredients well with a spoon and give it to your toddler. Mash the whole thing so that your toddler can have it without any difficulty.

Rice with a hint of pepper: Same procedure as above, here pepper replaces fenugreek. In a pepper grinder crush the pepper seeds and add it to the finely mashed rice. Add ghee and little salt.

Note: Try different dals. Like one day Arhar and the other day moong dal etc. This will take away the banality factor. Simple ghee rice also is equally enjoyable
