Asparagus (Asparagus officinalis) is a spring vegetable that offers a lot of health benefits for your body. Its a native to Europe, southern Africa and western Asia regions. Mainly, its young shoots are eaten. In many parts of France, Spain and Germany, people use 'White Asparagus' or 'Edible ivory' in the place of the commonly grown 'Green Asparagus'. Its also famous with the title of 'The Royal Vegetable'. Its a bit bitter in taste and tender in formation. Generally, asparagus contains 'Cleaning and Healing' properties which helps to form a strong body structure. So know its main health favors here:

Anti-inflammatory- This vegetable contains certain anti-inflammatory agents like asparagus saponins and the flavonoids quercetin. They help to treat the problems of arthritis,asthma and autoimmune diseases.

Antioxidants- Asparagus contains an ingredient called glutathione. Its rich in certain amino acids that work as powerful oxidation reduction substances.
This veggie contains some other antioxidants in the form of the nutrients like Vitamin C and A, zinc, manganese and selenium. They all fight against the free radical movements that speed-up the process of aging.

Treats cancer- The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant values of asparagus helps to treats the problems of breast cancer, bladder cancer,colon cancer, prostate cancer and ovarian cancer.

Healthy heart- It contains a good amount of folate which is a B complex vitamin. This one helps to form a healthy heart condition and prevent various cardiovascular diseases.

Birth defects- Folate is also important for cell division and preventing birth defects in newly born babies. So, being a rich source of this nutrient, asparagus is highly recommended for pregnant women.

Diuretic- An amino acid called asparagine is found in asparagus. It works as a fine diuretic agent. So it heals the problems of swelling, arthritis and water retention.

Healthy digestion- Its use prevents the risk of colon cancer and promotes the proper functioning of the intestinal tract.

*Do consider the point that, an excessive intake of asparagus can invite the troubles of frequent urination, formation of gas and smelly urine. So take it only in moderation.
