Mud masks are not an innovation of the stylish spas and salons. They have been around from ancient times. There is reference to mud bath as far back as the Egyptian civilisation.

Even Indians used mud, especially Fuller's earth or multani mitti to make mud face pa cks and treat their skin. But, if you are an amateur to the whole concept of mud baths to get a great skin, then you need some guidelines.

Mud packs cool the skin and cleanse it. And as mud is organic, it puts some vital nutrients back into the skin. However, not every kind of mud can be used on the skin. You might also be allergic to some kinds of mud. That is why, here is is a list of the type of muds that are save to use on the skin.

1. French Clay Mud: This is the most common kind of mud used for face masks in spas and salons. It also has the maximum number of benefits for your skin. This clay is also refrered to as sea clay because it comes from under the ocean. In fact, the famous Dead Sea mud mask makes use of this clay. It is the best pack for oily skin as French clay soaks skin oils and pumps fresh blood into the skin. It also tightens up skin pores and helps smooth out wri nkles. Thus this face mask has a great anti-ageing effect on your skin.

2. Volcanic Mud: This type of mud is also referred to as Bentonite clay. This clay is collected from places where there has been a volcanic eruption and thus the soil is rich in minerals. It will give your face an injection of organic nutrients to make your skin healthy and glowing. By the way, this mud is also edible.

3. Fuller's Earth: Known in India as Multani mitti, this type of mud is also very commonly used in face packs. It cools the skin during the hot Indian summer. People who get a lot acne often use mud masks made of Fuller's earth. This is because Multani mitti soaks oils and cures acne. It is also good to fade out the marks left behind by acne.

4. Black Mud: This mud comes from the interiors of Canada. It is deep black in colour and is extracted from bogs and marshes. This type of mud is rich in both organic and inorganic elements. The biggest advantage of this kind of mud is that it is an astringent so you will probably not get an infection from it. It stimulates the skin to regenerate and keeps you looking youthful.

5. Alpine Moor Mud: This type of mud is extracted from the Alpine forests. It has a combination of numerous carbon compounds that can cleanse t he skin very thoroughly. The balming effect of this mud ensures that your skin is not bruised during cleaning.
