Interesting Facts: The cultivation of onion is supposed to have initiated near around 3500 B.C in Asia. And since they can be stored in winters for a long time, so their use soon became famous throughout the whole world.

As its made with a circle-in-circle shape, so it was worshiped as the sign of 'Eternity' in the ancient Egyptian Era. In fact, the workers who built the Great Pyramid were paid with onions, garlic and parsley as their daily wages. The pictures of this veggie is painted on the walls of this precious wonder of the world. Its believed that Mummies were buried with onions.

The name of this veggie, onion, is derived from a Latin word 'Unio'. It means one or unity because this food grows in a single bulb shape.

If you need only half part of an onion for cooking then choose the top area. The bottom half has a longer life and can be stored in the refrigerator for future use.

Onion has a strong smell. So when you slice its pieces then it leaves a filthy odor in your hands. To remove it, wash your hands with water and then rub them with a little salt or vinegar.

Its famous for its aphrodisiac properties. This value is highlighted in many classic Hindu texts for carrying out the art of love.

Do you cry while cutting an onion?? Actually, its made with sulfur content which oozes out upon slicing and reacts with the moisture of your eyes and creates sulfuric acid. So your eyes produce tears to remove this component.

And lastly, due to its wide use, onions are the sixth most cultivated foods in the whole world. This underlines its fame and prominence.
