Wedding day is of greater importance in the lives of people. All girls are highly conscious for this mega event. I advise all girls to take special skin care at least one month before the wedding day to look more attractive, fresh and beautiful. Wedding represents the most important day in the life of a bride. So, it is quite natural that she wants to look her best on the day. To attain this very purpose, most of the brides opt for skin care treatments with their beauticians, apart from appointments with their hair stylist. Talking about the skin, along with beauty treatments, there needs to some efforts on the bride’s part as well, to make sure that it looks soft, smooth and glowing.
Follow the tips given below and get elegant look with fewer cosmetics:

Bridal Skin Care Tips

Proper Cleansing

One of the first things that you need to undertake, as a part of your bridal skin care, is a proper cleansing routine. Use a mild cleanser for your face, while having a bath in the morning, and apply a good moisturizer soon after. If, and when, you wear makeup, remove it as soon as you get back home, with the help of a proper makeup remover. Always wash your face before going to bed, at night, and follow it with the application of a good moisturizer. Last, but not the least, make use of a good exfoliating product, at least thrice a week.

Good Diet & Proper Sleep

Following a proper and balanced diet forms a very important part of bridal skin care. What goes inside you has a bearing on the outward appearance as well. Drink at least 8 glasses of water in a day and include lots of fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet. Having a sound sleep is also essential for a glowing skin. Never ever compromise of your sleep, otherwise you will end up with a tired look on your face, apart from the ugly dark circles around your eyes. Do not take undue tension and try to remain as stress-free as possible. You might also indulge in meditation and yoga, for the purpose.
Use The Regular Brand Cosmetics

While you might afford to explore new brand or new type of cosmetics in the normal routine, the months prior to your wedding is certainly not the time to do so. In fact, you should stick to your regular brand for cosmetics as far as possible. Ignore the latest commercial in the television about the ‘magic concealer’ that has come in the market or the ‘new lipstick’ that makes your lips look much fuller and shinier. This is because a new product might trigger allergies on your skin, especially if the latter is too sensitive, and end up leaving spots or scars. So, it is better to put off the experiments for after the wedding.

Some More Tips

-Try to avoid junk foods and processed foods as much as possible. Put a limit on your caffeine consumption and stay away from foods that contain too much sugar or are high in calories.

-In the months preceding your wedding, it is advisable to undertake light exercise on a regular basis. Apart from helping you keep in shape, it will improve the blood circulation and bring a glow to your skin.

-While buying products for your skin, be it moisturizers, cosmetics or cleansers, always keep the type of your skin in kind – dry, oily or normal. A wrong product might end up doing more damage then good.

-Try to avoid weather conditions like harsh sun or thrashing wind. In case you have to go out in such weather, make sure to apply a sun-block with at least 20 SPF and cover your face with a scarf.

Finding the Skin Moisturizer For You

It may take some trial and error, Halem says, so be patient. Follow these guidelines as you shop and, if you’re not getting the results you want, try a new one the next time:

  • Note the first five ingredients. Look for common active ingredients, such as lanolin, glycerin, or petrolatum, Dr. Fusco says. Glycerin is less likely than lanolin to cause an allergic reaction, she says. She also recommends picking a moisturizer that’s made by a reputable company.
  • Go for added sunscreen. Protecting your skin from harmful sun damage is one of the best things you can do to keep your skin looking young, so buy a moisturizer with a sun protection factor of at least 30. You’ll have to do some searching, but more companies are offering face and body moisturizers with sunscreen, Halem says.
  • Make it skin-type appropriate. The skin on your face is thinner and more sensitive, so it’s a good idea to use a different moisturizer on your face than you do on your body, Fusco says and recommends buying one that’s labeled “non-comedogenic” because it won’t clog your pores. Of course, choose one that’s right for your skin type. If you know you have sensitive skin, it’s always a good idea to look for a moisturizer labeled hypoallergenic. If you have oily skin, go with a light, oil-free moisturizer. If you have dry skin, get something richer. And if you have combination skin, go with a lighter moisturizer for your whole face and dot drier areas with a heavier cream, Fusco says. Keep in mind that you may need a lighter lotion in the summer, and a cream or ointment in the winter.
  • Consider using a moisturizer with retinol before bed. Retinol is vitamin A for your skin, Halem says. It works by increasing the speed at which your skin cells turn over. You can find it over the counter or by prescription, but use it carefully as it may cause a skin irritation, red skin, or dry skin.
  • When to Moisturize
Once you find the right product, moisturize every day and you’ll go a long way toward preventing dry skin and even camouflaging wrinkles. While a skin moisturizer can’t get rid of wrinkles — because wrinkles begin much deeper in the skin due to collagen loss — it can plump up the skin and minimize their appearance, Halem says.
Whichever moisturizer you choose, it will work better if you apply it to damp skin. Think about a sponge that’s dried out, Fusco says. If you put moisturizer on it, it won’t go anywhere. But if you soak the sponge in water and coat it with moisturizer, the sponge will absorb it. Your skin works the same way, happily lapping it up.

These are top 5 mosturizers...

[h=3]Fab India Vitamin E Skin Hydrating Cream[/h]

It is god sent for oily skin. In terms of quality it can give a tough competition to the likes of The Body Shop, Lush, etc. Priced at Rs.225 for 120ml, it is very affordable. It has got this light whipped cream consistency which is what makes it apt for combination-oily skin. Also it is absorbed within minutes. But don’t go overboard with it, because too much of it can make your skin greasy and shiny. It comes in a tub. But I just checked Fab India’s website and now they have changed its packaging to a tube. Do check this one out

[h=3]Aroma Magic Almond moisturizing lotion[/h]

Now something for the dry club. Aroma Magic products by Blossom Kochhar are herbal so I trust this brand a lot for my skin care needs. This lotion is quite creamy and keeps your skin hydrated for a long time. Also, it keeps the dry patches at bay. Priced at Rs.215 for 220ml, it would last really long. It conditions your skin and keeps it soft and supple and if you like almonds then you will like how it smells! A real boon it is for dry to normal skin.

[h=3]Neutrogena Oil Free Moisturizer SPF 15[/h]

Well what do I say about it. It is a moisturizer with an added advantage of SPF 15. It gets absorbed within minutes and keeps your face matte for a good amount of time. But some people complain of it making their skin greasy, I don’t know why. In fact they have the similar moisturizer for dry skin, sensitive skin, combination-oily skin, etc. So you can take your pick. Also if you wish for more sun protection, then you can go for the one with SPF 35. Priced at Rs.250 for 115ml, it is definitely not expensive. Also it doesn’t contain any parabens…me likey! Also it being non-comedogenic, won’t clog your pores.
[h=3]Lotus Herbals SheaMoist 24 hour moisturizer
[/h]

f you love strawberries, then you are going to eat this thing up. Dry skinned beauties look no further. I’m not sure about the 24 hour claim but it will surely keep you moisturized for a long time and you only need a little of this so the tube also would last long. The consistency is somewhere between a cream and a lotion which is what you always wanted. Priced at Rs.110 for 60ml and Rs.180 for 120ml, it is pocket friendly too. If you are not too sure, you can always pick the smaller tube too see if it works for you..

[h=3]Lotus Herbals Aloe Hydra moisturizing gel[/h]

Aloe Vera is one of the best natural moisturizers for your skin. So it scores here. Secondly, it has this gel consistency which is very much apt for combination-oily skin. It is light weight, gets absorbed within minutes and smells pleasantly. What more can you ask for? Oh yes the moisturization! Yes this oil-free moisturizer keeps your skin hydrated without making it oily or shiny. You can use it as your makeup base too. One of the best moisturizers around. Price Rs.180 for 100g

Dear Nandhini,

Try homemade moisturizers, lotions, cleansers and facial for better skin since they give good results and also there wont be any side effects.

I am comfortable with homemade cleassers, toners and moistuizers and it gives a good glow and healthy appeal to the face.
Here's a list of Homemade moisturizer and lotion recipes:

Milk body lotion: Milk is the best natural body lotion ingredient. Warm 2 cups of milk and add 1 tsp salt. Stir well and soak hands in this milk and salt solution. Massage your skin and rub knuckles, joints to remove dark spots. Wash off after 15 minutes. This milk lotion exfoliates and nourishes the skin.

Almond body lotion: Take 3 tsp lanolin, 1 tsp almond oil, petroleum jelly, vegetable lard, 2 tsp glycerine, 10 tbsp water, 1 tsp cornflower, 1 tsp soap flakes and almond essence. Heat the oils and water separately. Remove from heat and mix them together. Pour the mix in a bottle and add almond essence. Shake the bottle and store this natural body lotion.Rose water and glycerine homemade hand lotion: Hands are prone to becoming hard if not moisturized so glycerine is a natural ingredient which keeps the skin moisturized and smooth. Mix 1/3 cup glycerine and 2/3 cup rose water. Pour it in a bottle and store it in a cool, dry place. Shake well before use. Apply this natural hand lotion several times in a day and as winter is approaching, this is the best lotion to prevent dry hands.

Curd lotion: This homemade body lotion is a natural remedy to cure tanned skin and whitens skin. Take a cup of curd and add few drops of lime juice. Beat the mixture and apply it on your body. Massage and rub the skin and wash off after 10-15 minutes. It lightens the skin and moisturizes it.

Rice and avocado oil homemade body lotion:
Take rice lotion base and mix rose water and avocado oil. Add vanilla and orange essence. Shake well and store in a cool place.

Banana lotion: This can also be used as a hand lotion. Mash a banana and add honey, lime juice and butter. Blend the mixture and store it in a container. Apply this mixture on the skin and leave for 2 hours. Wash off with milk and then water. This homemade body lotion softenes the skin and makes it smooth.

Hope it helps!
