Strawberry benefits are quite plentiful and affect a wide variety of systems and organs within the body.


Strawberry is the fruit of the common plant of the genus fragaria. It has a bright red color and has a uniquely pleasant aroma. Most people find that medium-sized strawberries are sweeter than their larger counterparts.

Strawberry is consumed in various ways. It can be consumed fresh during snack time or at dessert. It can also be eaten frozen or dried and used in cereal bars, cakes or cookies. The strawberry contains a lot of phytonutrients such as antioxidant phenols. The fruit is rich in such phenols as anthocyanins and ellagitannins. Anthocyanins imbue strawberry with its bright red color and are said to serve as potent antioxidants that have been shown to help protect cell structures in the body and to prevent oxygen damage in the body's organ systems. These phenols make strawberry its heart-protective, anti-cancer fruit, and anti-inflammatory properties. Other antioxidant substances in strawberry are kaempferol and quercetin.

There are individuals that exhibit an allergic reaction to the consumption of strawberries. Symptoms may be akin to that of hay fever and include dermatitis or hives. In severe cases, the allergic reaction may cause breathing problems.
