Taking the stairs as good as a trip to the gym

Visiting the gym may be a good way to stay fit, but doctors now believe that small amounts of activity could serve the same purpose. In other words, people who don't visit the gym could benefit if they adopted lifestyle-exercises such as taking the stairs or stretching their muscles during TV's commercial breaks.

A study of 6,000 Americans by the Oregan State University suggests that the health benefits of small amounts of activity—even if it is only of one- or two-minute durations that add up to 30 minutes a day—can be as beneficial as longer bouts of exercises. The researchers found that 43 % of those who participated in the "short bouts" of exercise met physical activity guidelines of 30 minutes day. The research has just been published in the American Journal of Health Promotion. The study's co-author Brad Cardinal has been quoted as saying that it is perceived that less than 10 % of Americans exercise. "But our research shows that more than 40 % of adults achieved the exercise guidelines, by making movement a way of life."

Cardinal, who has studied the "lifestyle exercise" model for more than 20 years, added, "This is a more natural way to exercise, just to walk more and move around a bit more." For example, he said instead of driving half a mile, try biking or walking the same distance; instead of sitting through TV commercials, try doing some sit-ups, push-ups; and instead of sitting and being a spectator at a child's sporting event, try walking around during the halftime break

It is cent percent true Vijigermany by using the stairs for going from one floor to another floor instead of using the lifts is of great help for the body as equal to going to gym. thanks for the information
