Time for some talk with your close pal

When your friend hurts or upsets you, don't bottle up your feelings. We give you reasons why you should open up and be upfront about how you feel

When faced with a difficult or an uncomfortable situation, which involves confronting a close friend, we often try to brush things under the carpet or bury our head in the sand like an ostrich hoping we won't have to address the situation anytime soon. While this put things on a simmer, it does not make the problem go away. We tell you why you should try having an honest talk with your friend.

Nip things in the bud before they get out of control

Contrary to popular perception ignoring a problem won't make it go away. It only leads to resentment and ultimately strains relationships. It's best to sort things out by having that talk at the earliest.

Better understanding

When you iron out differences, things settle down and you can reach a stage of mutual understanding which will only benefit your relationship in the long run by not allowing negative feelings of hurt and anger build up.

Suppressing emotions can lead to a volcanic eruption

Keeping things within can be a temporary solution, but in the long run it does more harm than good. In the desire to prevent conflict, you may suppress your feelings and this may lead to a full blown confrontation when you lose control and cannot keep a lid on things any longer.

Stagnation and death of a close relationship

When you keep your feelings to yourself, it eventually eats you up and leads to an emotional disconnect which eventually causes a relationship to fall apart.

A true friend will stick around and hear you out

If they choose to ignore or deny what's happening or lash out in anger, it only shows that the friendship was not worth it after all, which is a good reason to reconsider being friends with such a person.
