ways to wash your jeans

Whatever may be your body shape, a good pair of jeans is an essential part of everybody's wardrobe. Be it work or a party, jeans can be worn anytime and anywhere, because of the style and comfort they provide. So learn how to wash your jeans the right way at home.

- Though jeans have been popularized as rough and tough wear clothing, not many know that they are actually very delicate due to the various treatments they are put under. So always wash your jeans separately and not with your other clothes.

- Make sure that whenever you buy a new pair of jeans, don't wash it immediately. Wear it as many times as you can before even considering a first wash. By not washing it immediately, you allow the material to set in your body shape and retain the fit.

- Always wash them in warm water, with no bleach. Air-dry them to keep them in mint condition, but if you're in a hurry, you can tumble dry them on low.

- Turn your jeans inside out before washing to slow down fading or else if you really don't want them to fade, send them to the dry cleaner.

- Don't think too much about shrinkage. Denim is resilient, and most fashionable jeans have been pre-shrunk by many rigorous denim washes before they hit the sales floor. It is best to ask the sales person about how much shrinkage you can expect.

- While washing jeans, see to it that you don't put more than four pairs of jeans in the washing machine at once because the heavy weight of the denims will constrict the movement of the wash cycle. This can damage the machine as well as the garment, and chances are, the jeans will end up less than clean, not to mention wrinkled!

Jeans seldom go out of fashion. They come in different cuts and colors. Wash your denims using mild detergent only. If there's stains pre-treat the stains using a stain remover devoid of bleach substances. Check the compartments of your washer for leftover bleach or detergent. Neat them out first so that you won't stain your denims.

Washing jeans the appropriate way is just one of the methods in which you can extend the life and quality of your jeans. Jeans can get smaller and reduce their fit if they are cleaned unnecessarily which can price you a lot of cash, especially if you get designer items.
